Has anyone else noticed that threads just disappear?

One disappeared - but it was slating chatroom manners so it doesn't surprise me.

Its always been the way, some threads get moved into the Mods Lounge when they need to be, some make it back and some don't.
I'd have to say that its for a good reason in the majority of cases, when its not they get put back pretty quick and it works out best for the site on balance.

Possibly. Some are moved to the correct category and some are removed for the users own safety when they put their full address and telephone number on a public forum.
There are many reasons to have to move threads but mostly wrong category and what st3v3 said
