Hypnotherapy will work as long as you want it to. Hypnosis just reinforces your own willpower with positive suggestion.
Like a lot of things in life, you get out what you put in ;-)
never had hypnotherapy but would like to try it.....as for giving up smoking, have you thought about bio resonance therapy? It totally stops your cravings, although it doesn't stop the actual habit ie smoking when you get in the car, after a meal etc so there is still some will power involved but stopping the craving helps a lot. It's about 250 quid for the session but most places offer a second session if it doesn't work.
likewise fir the london area...anyone had any success with a hypnowassname round 'ere?
my ashtray is overflowing

One of the girls who works for me has given up through hypnosis (NW London outskirts if it's any good to you Plaything). The first thing the therpaist asked her was where on a scale of 1 to 10 she would rate her desire to give up - 1 being you love smoking and 10 being it disgusts you and you can't wait to give up. He said that unless you're at least an 8, there's no point having hynotherapy but once you're at that level, he saw her for one session and she's stopped for a few weeks so far!
thats sounds hopefull...and good luck to your friend Serendipity...
1-10 eh?... I think i could just about squeeze a 7... maybe 6.
some cigarettes during the day, i really do enjoy...
but the smell... >hands, mouth/breath, clothing etc< inconvenience etc etc... Now being more than aware of the health risks and the dreadfull end that could be caused through smoking... well... seems it could be well worth a try.
any chance of forwarding (pm) the name/site of said magician?

Hypnotherapy will help, but only if you are truly dedicated to doing whatever it is you are going to the hypnotherapist about! The way hypnotherapy works is like a placebo pain killer, it works because you believe it will (and similarly doesn't if you doubt it)!
The only thing to remember is that it isn't a miracle cure or an overnight way to (in this particular instance) give up the dreaded weed, more a way to help you unlock the power inside your own subconscious mind to help and enable you to deal with the stress and difficulty that your body's dependency and subsequent withdrawal from nicotine will have on you.
You can do this without the need for an expensive visit to a hynotherapist, there are CD's available (notably Paul McKenna) that help to relax you during nicotine withdrawal, again the need for your own bit of willpower is definitely required and a willingness to open yourself up to the possibility that your own mind is a far more powerful tool than any other in determining your successes and failures in any aspect of your life,
Good luck with it and let me know how you get on!!
PS try googling, hypnotherapy CD's

Someone close to me was thinking about hypnotherapy the other day - I'll point this thread out and keep a close watch.
Where's there's a will there's a way but there's got to be a will!
.
The only way a hypnotherapist could help me with smoking is if he stuck his needles into my fags.
I have tried everything and have always failed. Gave up for 2 years once and was so cross with myself for restarting. One day I will stop - honest :/
tried it a few times the first sessions was to quit smoking ... althouh it was good ,it never made me pack it in ..i cut them down for a while ... a neighbour has been and it worked for him .. i eventually quit just by chance .. meaning i was ready to do so and until then its a uphill struggle trying without it. Second time was for stress as my doctor told me ... went to wondeful woman and although i was always relaxed that wasnt reason for my stress .... was taught self hypnosis and still do it to this day .. try it and see if it help .. nothing ventured nothing gained. best of luck
Tried Colonic Irrigation, but the only thing that made me wanna give up was botty sex.....for about a day
Hypnosis will stop you smoking but only if you get a good hypnotherapist.
I tried to stop smoking. I saw a hypnotherapist. Had my hypnosis session. Walked out of his office and lit a cigarette up.
So after that experience I thought hypnosis did not work. Then after doing some research about hypnosis on the Internet I decided to try again.
This time I made sure I found a hypnotherpist with a good reputation. This time it as mind blowing. I never smoked again. It was not like I was a an ex smoker it was like I had never smoked in my life. I never craved or thought about cigarettes again. In any situation.
So hypnosis does work but only if you find a good hypnotherapist. Also it only cost me £60 for my stop smoking session. Just because somebody charges £300 does not mean they are good at hypnotherapy.
If the hypnotherapist is good you will only need one session to stop smoking.
