Yep, seen it and just looked at the site for the airport we fly from. No hand luggage, just a clear carrier with money, travel documents etc., essential medication and sanitary protection (unboxed)

Well there could have been 800 or so people dead by now and still folks were moaning about being late. I hope they have time to think about it some day.
It wasnt just today either they are now saying 9 planes in waves of 3 over a few weeks. Thats about 3600 people based on 400 seat per plane.

i was in train meetings all morning trying to see if we could help the airlines at all.... actually the one thing that most companies have been really surprised about is that there hasn't really been the whinging and grumbling that normally happens with disruptions......it seems that people have just accepted this and gone on in a sort of "thankful" way.....as in the realisation if this had gone ahead we would have been looking at carnage
saying that i have friends who were coming back from dublin today.... they asked me the best way to get back..... i said ferry!!!!!

It won't last, just wait until the trains are full, or seat reservations have to be suspended.....then it will back to the lovely abusive calls, that really make working on the phones a great place to be.

I'm flying out to Canada in the next while and I don't object to the delays or extra security or limited baggage. I think with news sensationalism, people like myself forget the threat of terrorism until something like this happens.
I'm glad the potential threats were foiled but sad it happened in the first place.

Had a bit of a panic this morning when I got to work and there were Fire Engines and an ambulance heading for a plane on the runway.
Turned out a pilot flicked the wrong switch and dumped a load of fuel on the runway :doh:

Shocking news, but I must say the security checks are non existent (or were till recently) at Heathrow. Just they made you take out your laptop and pass it through X-rays - big deal! In the meantime, the security surcharge that has been levied post 9/11 has been lining some pockets. Oh sorry, they did put mirrors in the galleys... I suppose that is a big expense.
My take on it is if air travel is dangerous, ban it altogether and do a favour to the environment at the same time. I was never in favour of globalisation anyway.
With regards to the PM being absent, how would your companies fare if the MD was away and a crisis broke out? Wouldn't everyone demand the immediate return of the MD who has the ultimate responsibility?

Air travel isn't dangerous. It does make a very good target for terrorists due to the huge disruptive effects caused and the fact that it makes the global news.

TBH most of the companies I've worked for would probably sort things out better without MD stepping in. By not returning to the UK the PM sends out a message to the terrorist groups that he won't be effected by them.

And why can't he maintain the 'ultimate responsiblity' from where he is??? We have the technology - and anyway ALL flights into the UK were stopped earlier today surely?
