.. what do people think!?
Just seen House Of Flying Daggers.. Along with Hero and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon I think its one of the best films of its gender (is that how you say it!?).. if not of all genres!
Doesnt come close to THE best film of all time though.. lol Goodfellas! But..
Your opinion..!
Where's the option for "never heard of it"?

Where's the option for "never heard of it"?

Should have thought of that!!
But may I just say Vix, that if you like films and the art of cinemagography (or whatever it is you call it and spell it..), its a beautiful film...
much like yourself!! Not that you are a film.. but if you ever wanted to star in one..... wink lol
Its a great film, check it out..
Hello by the way!!!
I certainly recall the trailers and thought that the effects seemed great, considered going to see it on the basis of those, was still considering watching it, but if you're telling me that it's in the same style as Crouching Tiger then I may not be interested, I thought that was a right overhyped pile of pants. Everyone a god, people jumping 50 feet into the air and not wearing a brightly coloured cape?
Chris
Brilliant film ! would have liked a better ending though, won't say how as it may spoil it for those still to watch.
 xxx
Haven't seen this film yet though imagine it to be good, as liked both Crouching Tiger and Hero... I'll have to get the dubbed version though as always seem to read the text rather than watch the film biggrin
Its nice to see that more movies of this genre are now being released in the west, just because they dont contain the usual Hollywood bangs and flashes we're used to makes a nice change... Hero was a beautiful film to watch ... artistically anyway and those that Practice or know martial arts would say its very well choreographed, though ever movement has been exaggerated slightly.
About Goodfellas being best film of all time nahh its a very good film but, its over shadowed by the Godfather, a bit like Casino is..
Best film for me has to be Shawshank Redemption.... Maybe Star Wars!! wink
Cracking film, well worth having a look at if you havent seen it. If you get chance also checkout those Japanese films that have had American remakes done. You will find the originals of the Ring, Ring 2, Grudge and others far better than the american crap and nice and scarey.

absolutly agree with the japanese originals of the ring and ring 2 being far better than american remakes..... but then you find american remakes are not as good... ever...lol

Shikukai, I agree with you on the beauty of these films, like Crouching Tiger.. and Hero. I think much better than some of the supposed big american blockbusters. I will disagree with you on one point though, if I may..
I dont know about watching these movies 'dubbed'. I find it more distracting the fact that their lips are not moving in time or in rhythm to waht they are saying, than having to read the subtitles. But, each to their own, right!?
hornet harlot, I agree with you. Not to give the ending away, but I would have liked a different ending too.
But anyway, keep those posting coming and thanks to those who have already commented..
PS- Shikukai, Goodfellas is the best fil ever!! mad (only joking..) biggrin
I haven't seen the film, but from the trailers I'm not overly impressed. Seems to be another copy of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and Hero.
IMO there's only so much OTT stunts and martial arts one can take before one gets bored of it.
Another "never heard of it" here!
Goodtime,
Know what you mean about the lip sync... Though I usually get relegated to the bedroom to watch it on a portable, as the wife thinks that kind of stuffs rubbish mad
So on the portable its not to noticeable.....
Also dont ever put the dubbed option on with the subtitles... The text and speech dont match each other wink
Agreed JAP Ring 1 and 2 very good, I kind of lost the plot on Ring 0 though. I have to admit I didnt mind the US Versions. My wife enjoyed it, she wouldnt watch the JAP versions though as couldnt be bothered to read the text
Add me to the "mever heard of it" brigade, but how long as sh been doing film reviews?
Everyone seems to forget the story line to this film, it wasn't just about "effects". I am not too keen on the bruce lee kinda thing so was hesitant to watch this. It is on a different level, sub titles were no prob as made film more authentic being in japanese/chinese. don't know which as I don't speak either. only in numerical form lol
 xxx
I LOVE House of the Flying Daggers!
kinkyluton got me it a couple of weeks ago and it is exactly my kind of film. I can do subtitles, I love beautiful scenery, the romantic twists and turns were perfect without being slushy and the action was fantastic ...... hiiiiiii yaaaaaaaah!
BTW, it was Mandarin Chinese, I believe. As was Crouching Tiger .. The reason you might think they are much the same is cos they made by the same folk, or director or summat and the lead is the same actress.

I love jap films, they have a tense artform that's something usa/brit films dont have...
Saying that, even though i loved the original Ring n Grudge i didn't mind the USA versions...
Well, glad to see theres someone else who loves BR. I agree, the second one is cack, shame really as I had high hopes for it... though what with the original director popping his clogs halfway through it wasn't a good sign.

NO! It's out now! cool
Good morning everyone!!
I see that the discussion is still going strong!! lol
Cant believe how many people havent heard of House Of Flying Daggers.. not seeing it I understand as I also havent seen alot of films, Im sure, but not to even have heard of it!? C'mon people.. lol
Seriously, if anyone who hasnt seen it has the chance to, its worth the rental fee. For those who get annoyed by all the elaborate jumps and special effects.. in this instance, as with other such beautifully made films, it serves to portray an ancient believe in the mystical.. so go along with it, ride it out, try to understand the meaning behind all this and you should come out having a nice viewing experience!!
Damm.. maybe I should apply for the next role as the presenter of Films 2005.. lol
And for some of those who have been saying that original films are better than re-makes.. agreed (95% of the time..).
Anyway.. carry on! lol
I have added another option - Never Heard Of It ! confused :? lol
Cant wait to see it,
but once my son gets it on dvd ill prob get fed up of it.
he will watch it over and over and over again rolleyes biggrin :D
Heard of it and not seen it. TBH I didn't enjoy all that much so something in the same genre doesn't really appeal to me.
BR on the other hand, is absolute class from violent beginning to end violent end.
Never seen Battle Royale... When was it released!?
PS- Sean.. glad to see you out and about again!!! lol
You were, and in my opinion, will always be the best James Bond ever!!
Gives me an idea for another post!!! lol

You could always look it up on the net???
Saved you the bother ....
Made in 2001, released on DVD in 2002. Battle Royale(18) is "likened to Stanley Kubrick's A Clockwork Orangeby many critics, this explosive film shocked a nation with its violent portrayal of a society in ruins."
Don't say I don't do nuffink for ya.
