For the first time in my life I appear to be suffering from hay-fever and it's annoying the crap out of me.
My eyes are itchy, my nose is blocked and my throat is sore.
Now this isn't a cry for sympathy - there are people with far worse ailments than me, but we're off to the shops in a few minutes so if someone could recommend something I could take it would be greatly appreciated.
Alternatively, could someone teach me to breath through my ears because I'm finding it impossible to give a blow job at the moment redface
Never suffered but my nipper does and I have a friend who does and we were talking about it the other day. Apart from the usual antihistamine treatments from the chemist your GP can prescribe you with stuff as well, and I'm led to beleave it's not a case of taking it whilst your suffering but more so even when your not affected so as to build up an imune to it smile :)
An old wives tale round here (well the woman at the shop told me so it must be true) that locally produced honey helps dunno but can't really see it myself confused :? :?

I suffer from hay fever... this year quite bad sad
As for things to take, different tablets work differently with different people  that was a mouth full lol
I personally find that wilko's cheap tablets work better on me than any of the more expensive chemist ones...
There called..
Hayfever & allergy relief
Cetirizine dihydrochloride
Apart from that and the normal try not to go out to much or near where there would be big quantities of pollen there is not much else i could advise.
If you go doctors though, he can prescribe things like nose drops and eye drops ect... but just for a bit of quick relieve just the over the counter ones will have to do.

There was a study conducted a few years ago on this. Hayfever is caused by your body producing antibodies to the pollen, causeing an unecessary immune response. Local produce honey is made from the pollen that you are most likely to come into contact with. By eating this honey all year around your body is exposed to very small amounts of the proteins that it recognises as "badies" when there is a high pollen count. This has the effect of desensitising your immune system so it no longer produces hayfever symptoms.
The same type of treatment has been used for years on people with severe bee/wasp sting allergies. They are stung in a controlled environment where the anaphlyactic shock can be treated immediatley. Eventually the body switches off the innappropiate immune response. Very extreme but it does work.

My hayfever has been a nightmare the past couple of weeks. I try not to take anything for it if I can help it, just stay inside a lot and constantly wear sun glasses.
Have resorted to Benadryl a few times this week it has been so bad sad
I like it because it is fast acting dunno

You wouldn't suggest dogging for hayfever sufferers then? :giggle:
Stay inside with the windows shut wearing a gas mask or move into the middle of the city in a top floor flat... apart from that good luck finding the anti histamine thatworks for you

i have had worse hayfever this year than on any other year!
i hope it is not a sign of things to come. have to agree with shaz, the caplets from wilkos are great, they have non drowsey ones too.
I used to get it badly, but it's eased off over the last few years.
I still find that if I have a shower or even just rinse my hair it helps a lot. I think the pollen catches in your hair then gets scattered in your eyes.
Alternatively book yourself 4 weeks at the coast.biggrin
Didn't think I suffered from it - thought you either were born with it or you weren't - but last couple years around now I've been getting what I thought was a cold that I couldn't shift. this year out of desperation and cos it was pissing me off, I tried hayfever tablets ... still get the odd sniffle but they seem to be doing the job so I guess I DO suffer from hayfever after all  One thing I noticed though - when I'm out of London, I don't seem to get it so maybe it's the crap quality of the London air!
Anyway, Benadryl works but makes me drowsy, clarityn seems as good ... and Tesco are doing a BOGOF on them btw.
As an all year round allergy sufferer, i am permanantly on some sort of medication which treats the majority of syptoms, however this last fortnight has been horendous, to the point i gave up with tissues and toilet to blow my nose on, i went straight for the kitchen roll instead...
Anyway, with the fact that i was starting a new job last monday looming closer, i was desparate to get some sort of relief for the the almost non stop sneezing i was having, so armed with all my usual medication i trotted off to the local chemist spoke with the pharmacist who was a really nice and helpful chap and left with this tiny bottle of nasal spray (about )
woo hoooooo.. for the first time in i don't know how many years, i have now gone a whole week without having hourly sneezing fits every day, and have even been able to reduce my usual daily medication.
its the chemists own brand stuff, but the main ingrediant in it is Beclometasone Dipropionate so i'm sure you can get it at most other chemists,
frecks
xxx
cow pats
yes I said cow pats
its an old remedy that really works you have to smear a fresh one just under your nose when the first signs are coming on biggrin
It may well be the chemists choice (beclamethasone dipropionate) but I think you may like to get the nod from your doctor about continued use of that drug (an artifical steroid)
There is quite a lot of research into the problems it causes in some people. Short term use shouldn't cause any problems.

This is why i took my current medication with me, and asked for the pharmacists advice rather than just asking over the counter. Both he, the pharmacist, and the packaging clearly stated that the product should not be used continuously for more than 3 months.
I did also check later in the week with my GP about using it, as occasionally i have to take prescribed steroids too for other reasons.
So all in all to get through a tough hay fever period it is safe to use.
Hi Hornylittleblonde,
I asked the same question last night and it was suggested as an alternative to prescribed and over the ounter medications to try either camomile and/or lavender.
If you are feeling anything like me you will agree that its got to be worth a try

Hi there.....
Like some I get it now and then... nothing major by some standards. What has worked for me so far when an attack starts is to wash my face as quick as possible.. if really bad and the nose is itching etc cold water in the nose works stings for a second but it soon calms it all down. Sounds simple I know but honest it works for me..
Got to be better than tablets all the time.

Have to say I agree with freckles...I constantly suffer with it. But, yeah, do check with you GP when taking any sort of steroid remedy. I know people who have got on quite well with normal over the counter stuff, but it does just depend on finding what suits you best. Have heard about the honey thing.....I was told that it will always be worse in your local area as it is the pollen local to you that you build up the allergy to (I don't understand why that is, and why it would be any different in your local area than anywhere else) so I can kind of understand the thinking behind the honey remedy.

It's all to do with the type of immune response that causes allergies. There are different types of antibodies that your body produces and they have different functions. The type of antibody which is involved in hayfever is the IgE antibody.
Pollen is covered in protiens called antigens. Pollen from different areas will have slightly different antigens. Your body produces IgE antibodies which recognise and bind to the antigens on the surface of the pollen which you are exposed to. This begins a cascade of events resulting in the hayfever symptoms.
As pollen from different areas is slightly different you don't have antibodies that recoginse it.

We think that might be the problem here.
I did the lawns last week for the first time this year, but because of my "state of health" she had to help me far more than she would normally. The grass was too long to be mowed, so we strimmed and picked up by hand.
Either that or the cats
They've both just started molting quite heavily.
Have also been suffering with it, one other trick you may like to try is a dollop of vaseline up each nostril, it stops the pollen and has an added bonus of keeping the partner away when they see you approaching with the vaseline tub and a pre-lubricated finger smile

hi i used too suffer from hayfever very badly when ynger, but as i have got older seem to have got better altho still suffer from it etc. i would reccomend going to yr local health shop and they shld have tablets which dissolve on the tounge im sorry i have forgotten their name. i have found these useful. also ask for ecchnaccia which acts as a natural antibiotic, and is available in liquid or tablets. it boosts yr immunesystem which shld help.
hope you find this useful. smile
Hmmm
Not too sure now.
I woke up in the early hours with my nose running and a rasping cough.
Maybe she's just got the lurgy, and now given it to me
mad :x
The pollen count is very high at the moment and I'm suffering again, even worse when some bugger cuts their grass mad Still it should only last another couple of weeks rolleyes
