Yes.... it's that time of the year again, when all the poor souls have to put up with constant runny noses, sneezing, itchy noses and eyes, red and puffy eyes and a multitude of other symptoms.
Unfortunately, after years of avoiding it I'm now afflicted by the bastard problem and the roof of my mouth is itching so much it's driving me crazy. mad :x
Does anyone know of any good or useful hayfever cures or solutions apart from taking the tablets? Mainly as i forget, or they don't always temporarily cure the problem
Hay Fever
Tie a bag containing the sufferer's nail pairing to a live eel. It will carry the fever away.
Snakeroot tea will help hay fever.
Boil two roots of wild ginger in a cup of water, strain, and drink.
Boil a cup of pennyroyal leaves in a pint of water and drink.
Ref: The Foxfire Book
Hope this helps
I've suffered all my life with hayfever and mine starts in April each year and goes through to mid August !
The best thing I find is a nasal inhaler and eye drops, both of which I get from the doctor and top it up with the tablets on really bad days.
Trick is though to start taking the treatment just BEFORE you usually get symptoms so they don't really start in the first place. Works for me most of the time although today is quite bad as my eyes are a bit itchy confused
Do you find its worse on cloudy days or if its raining ? I do. rolleyes
I sympathise with you BigDewi.

It's normally ok when it's raining or cloudy, but when it's sunny it's abhorent. Although my eyes and nose are normally ok, it's the roof of my mouth which itches the most, and is the most difficult to cure as liquid doesn't make much difference.

here is a list of the 10 best, including some homeopathic

Well I used to get that horrible itch in the roof of my mouth too (tried scratching it but doesn't work rolleyes ) and inside my ears FFS!! The medication I'm on has stopped it.
I think its because your eyes, ears, nose, throat and mouth are all basically connected so when you help one aspect you help the others?

Your eyes and nose are separate, however, as an evolutionary by-product our jawbones are connected to our ears and the bones in there. That's why you can hear your jaw click, or reduce pressure on flights by yawning and chewing. It's also why you get itching in your ears.
a few years back i was suffering from hayfever so bad i could barely go out. after a few trips to the docs and finally hospital i was given an injection, of i think, pure pollen. within a few hours i started to fell better and now i dont suffer from it at all, not one runny eye or sneeze or anything. get to your docs and ask him about it, worked a treat for me gorge biggrin
eyes are connected in thier own way too but more by a passage going via the tear ducts but thats beside the point onto the main question :P
beconase nasel spray matt gets the worst hayfever ive seen during the summer when he stays in the city but when he uses that spray u wouldnt know he had hayfever ...
allthough this is the guy who sits in the city sneezing and says "bugger this im off to find a farm to stop the hayfever:P"...strange i know but it works for him as a displaced country boy he swears its the pollution in the city mixed with the pollen that gets him rather than the pollen itself *shrugs* but then again who cares :P ..
just use that beconase it works on all the symptoms and it hits it quick smile you just use it when u need it as often as u feel the need:)
CK
Thank you all kiss
I will brave the pollen later and head to boots for some beconase spray. Hopefully it'll help keep it at bay for the rest of the summer.
Being a displaced country boy myself, it is worse living in the big city sad

ck *mumbles* oh god now uve done it here we go with matt trying to buy a farm again , i know thats what he's qualified to do but i dont get on with tractors :( and his chainsaw gear is a real turn off :(

complete deep sea divers suit...heavy and cumbersom but effective. confused
i know, i know...it's no laughing matter, and i really do sympathise with sufferers.
ive suffered with hayfever since i was a kid, and last year i had THE worst hayfever EVER, i was soooo pissed off i almost emigrated, my main problem is sneezing, running blocked nose-this is constant, and the roof of my mouth itching-
tablets in only ever seem to work for a few days for me, and rarely really sort my nose out
the nasal spray is a complete winner!!! i use beconase and it has changed my life, and i dont mean that in an over the top way, sometimes i will sniff and sneeze abit, but i can live with that, on the whole it has got rid of the 'hayfever look' (red nose, red puffy eyes and general pastyness' and totally sorted out my nose. Like i said i still 'get hayfever' but in a way that doesnt effect my quality of life, before it really is a nightmare, although even then there were obviously times when i didnt get it, but on the whole its an april-september thing for me.....
now im hardly bothered by it...the odd sneezing here and there, but i now have wot id call mild hayfever as apposed to hayfever hell. he he
as for the roof of the mouth thing....the sure fire way to stop it itching, is to NOT itch it with your tongue, the more you itch it the worse ot gets and it also sets of other syptoms, esspecailly nasal, and if you do it to much your throat will be hyper sensitive and drive u mad. its hard, but dont itch it and it will get better!!
also every now and again if i get a bad day (ill know before i leave the house!!!) ill take a tablet and that tends to help, but DONT take tablets and nasal spray all the time at the same time, as it messes up the levels of cortisteriods in your body and may make you more allergic in the long run.
also once your syptoms seem more under control, try reducing the dose or number of sprays and increasing them rather than routinly squirting 8 sprays up each nostril 4 times a day!!!
bit of a hayfever nut...so if you need any help...im here!!! he he...i hate hayfever. and feel passionate about ridding it from our lives dammit!!! wot can be worse than being allergic to the fucking air.
sorry if that doesnt read to well...i was typing pretty quick and then just hit the send button!!
seven seas new era tablets from a health shop was what i used to take
not been plagued for a few seasons now

I used to use Beconase but it did not suit me - so I went back to the Docs and to a consultant. Had a CT Scan of the sinus and found a partial blockage.
I now use Flixonase which is far stronger 365 days a year to keep the sinus clear and the hayfever away. If I get congested I then have to use zirtek anti-histamine and antibiotics as well.
The only time in last 15 years I can safely say I was great was when the doctor in the hospital used a fine white powder to open my sinuses up so they could check inside. I asked if I could have that, the doc laughed and said no unless I wanted to be arrested.
It was 100% coke used for medicinal purpose.
If your eyes are itchy try asking your local chemist for false tears. They do help.
Steph

Is that what they give after false promises? lol
I've found that the best cure was to move far far away from London. Used to get hayfever very bad but since moving away some three years ago I've barely needed to take anything. I still get the odd bit of itching, sneezing, etc, but I've not felt the need to take anything for it. If I was back in London now and unmedicated I'd be completely wasted.

hehe now thats 2 ppl who agree with me its the city's fault we all have hayfever ..whose got a barn to rent? id even settle for a shed + hotwater bottle or someone to cuddle:P
I used to suffer from hayfever really bad, up until about 3-4 years ago when i went to the docs and asked him for an injection that my mother used to have called " Kenalog ".
It is a steriod injection i think confused: that i have in about early april-ish that seems to work very well for me, unless, the pollen count is really high like today then i get very lathargic, a slight runny nose and my eyes only itch slightly.
And just one dose seems to work for me unless it carrries on being as high as it is today redface
So maybe that might be a good hayfever cure for you??
to be honest i have used smelling salts for ages and it works for me
Quick update - Have bought and used Beconase from boots and it works a treat. Have gone form permanently sneezing with a very itchy mouth to practically nothing at all.
Thank you whoever recommended them kiss

I have what they call perennial rhinitis , which makes me sneeze, itch ,eyes run etc susceptible to house dust mites especially.
I live and work on a farm so am exposed to all kinds of dust ,pollen etc .I know , i know a farmer with hay fever ??????
There is no set time for me to get symptoms worse than any othere but to agree with some previous points you have to take the nasal spray a few days BEFORE you think the time`s getting near to makin you miserable .I sympathies totally its horrible !! I am lucky I get away with one quarter the stated dose BUT have to take it all the time . One squirt of beconase pollenase or whatever seems to keep me snae most of the time. If however I have a breakdown I`ll wheeze sneeze etc for 2 or 3 days , will be like I have the cold for a week or 10 days and as long as I keep at the spray .......SOMETIMES I forget !! I`ll in general be ok again. Have you tried taking beechams or lemsip or something like that just to ease the symptoms once you are miserable........ I have taken a belly full of vodka and fallen asleep that stopped me itching once !
again my sympathies and hope some of the above help!!
Jake
Having never suffered from hayfever I can't say what works and what doesn't but a friend of mine gets it really bad. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy and I sympathise with those that do suffer from it.
Saying that ....... moving to Antarctica might help.. there are no bloody plants there at all!
