So far the only sensible post in this thread. However, I'm surprised you've never seen the SH newbie-baiting before. It's a very frequent occurrence but is never particularly pleasant to watch and is usually performed by people that have been here long enough to know better. It happens more in LMU where some members troll the threads looking for someone to pick on.
There are just 2 things I would quibble with.
Why is it fair enough for him to be flamed? His initial post seemed perfectly acceptable within the AUP of the site. His use of textspeak could be irritating, but that is a personal thing and he stopped once he had been told so eloquently that it wasn't appropriate. How he sets himself in his signature is up to him. If you don't like the sound of him, then ignore him...simple as.
He wasn't the first person to use insulting language, he was called a tosser, and his response to that was fairly restrained. This forum is often likened to a pub and newbies are told that they wouldn't go into a new pub and speak like that. Maybe some of the more established members should think along those lines too. Would you go into a pub and call someone a tosser? You might think it but you wouldn't say it. Sitting behind the safety of a keyboard though, it's easy to hurl insults.
Two lines from the AUP:
* Anything hateful, like racist remarks, or using offensive terms offensively.
* Abusive or aggressive behaviour towards other people on here.
I don't think that it was the newbie that broke the rules.

You didnt get off to a good start, but sometimes I've seen how a clique of negativity develops when a 'new' or 'innocent' poster says something the glitterati don't like...we all have different views, we are a forum made up of individuals ffs, different ideals, backgrounds, ages, education etc..
I would welcome you (or anyone else for that matter) into my house and at least give them a chance. To the open minded and tolerant establishment of SH. As you have guessed we accept everybody on this site, as long as they do not break the AUP rules........and some other rules that I am just starting to find out about.
The new rules seem to be:
Rule one: When someone gives an amusing, toungue in cheek, dig........do not give one back as you are a newbie and it will be classed as insulting
Rule two: If you get insulted by a regular poster and you haven't insulted anybody back.......then you are stilled deemed to be insulting
Rule three: When you apologise for being insulted........expect to be insulted some more and be expected to crawl over broken glass to atone for other peoples insults.
Rule four: Whatever you say will be deemed to be wrong, because you are young.
Rule five: A quip that you direct at another member will be treated as insulting, even though that member did not draw to your attention that they were insulted or felt that they had been insulted. We will leave it to other regulars to decide on their behalf and beat you to death with it.
Rule six: Any language that you use should only come from the Oxford English Dictionary, and all grammar has to be checked by Freckledbird
I hope after learning the AUP (that you did not break) and the new rules that have appeared......you settle in well and enjoy the company of the posters in this forum.
