Now I don't actually remember reading the instructions, I just remember getting in at the first attempt, and it occurs to me that having some experience of IRC may have helped. So I'm wondering, given that large numbers of people apparently do have problems, maybe it really is inherently difficult and could be simplified somehow?

I'm similar to Ice ... have used IRC for a long time (what a waste my life is) and so never really had any problems but know more than a couple who have.
Having read the threads, there isn't anything much simpler really to write
