I just pondered on the thought that we all have our own daft things we do to save the natural resources, and maybe sharing would enrich our lives? My dad uses a section of old water pipe about 6" round, and stuffs it full of old carrier bags so he always has them to hand and he passes them onto the local market trader to reuse on his stall.
I keep old jars in my shed for paintbrushes and storing seeds. Anyone else contribute?
Me and my mate at work get laughed at for being so careful - with paper mainly. One A4 sheet gets used so many times. We never use notebooks - can't remember the time I used a fresh piece of paper for just jotting something down, always use the back of another bit, scrap from the recycle bin, back of an envelope, anything with a space to write on lol.
Yep, that's my main bit of frugalness - seeing a crisp new bit of paper with just one note jotted on it is enough to give me palpitations.
I run a voluntary project that promotes washable nappies ...started using them on my son and everyone asked where I got them from so I started a project promoting awareness ... very successful it is too in fact I'm about ready to hand it over to my local councils for them to take over. Disposables have a massive impact on the environment.
We recycle everything we can, have a composter, have milk delivered and in glass bottles instead of buying it in plastic bottles, buyed recycled and organic where possible. Have a box scheme for veg delivered. Read news on the internet and don't have papers delivered. We're also signed up for MPS to stop junk mail being delivered to us.
I like to think we do our bit and I promise I'm not half as much of a hippy as I sound (although the leanings are there ;) )
Wish i could say what ido differently to the majority of house holders these days.. I use the recycling etc, I ain't got a composter as the garden is only big enuff to swing a cat (perhaps scraping its head down one side!!!...this is a joke!! don't want any of them activists getting into trouble kicking up a stink down here!) We've got a good couple of recycling centres within 5 mile raidus of here anyway... I am very good to the enviroment, recycling as much ale as possible, removing the bad parts and absorbing them into my body!!! The unfortunate part is the waste!!!! However I am not someone who pisses in the street.... However behind the hedge, well that's a different matter!
So there... My contribution to the enviroment is that I persevere to remove the ale from the pub and filter out the bad bits in me kidneys!
