I just pondered on the thought that we all have our own daft things we do to save the natural resources, and maybe sharing would enrich our lives? My dad uses a section of old water pipe about 6" round, and stuffs it full of old carrier bags so he always has them to hand and he passes them onto the local market trader to reuse on his stall.
I keep old jars in my shed for paintbrushes and storing seeds. Anyone else contribute?
I throw everything into one large bin and the dustmen take it away. This cuts down on the amount of trips the dustcart has to make to our street therefore saving the environment from extra pollution. rolleyes
If you believe that... I have shares here for sale...
/edited the spelling! redface
Me and my mate at work get laughed at for being so careful - with paper mainly. One A4 sheet gets used so many times. We never use notebooks - can't remember the time I used a fresh piece of paper for just jotting something down, always use the back of another bit, scrap from the recycle bin, back of an envelope, anything with a space to write on lol.
Yep, that's my main bit of frugalness - seeing a crisp new bit of paper with just one note jotted on it is enough to give me palpitations.
I run a voluntary project that promotes washable nappies ...started using them on my son and everyone asked where I got them from so I started a project promoting awareness ... very successful it is too in fact I'm about ready to hand it over to my local councils for them to take over. Disposables have a massive impact on the environment.
We recycle everything we can, have a composter, have milk delivered and in glass bottles instead of buying it in plastic bottles, buyed recycled and organic where possible. Have a box scheme for veg delivered. Read news on the internet and don't have papers delivered. We're also signed up for MPS to stop junk mail being delivered to us.
I like to think we do our bit and I promise I'm not half as much of a hippy as I sound (although the leanings are there ;) )
I'm exactly the same as Misschief - I write notes on just about any scrap paper I can rather than start a fresh piece.
Sadly this is reflected in my home office, which is bulging at the seams with my 'notes' which I cannot file in an orderly fashion because the paper is all different sizes, shapes, colours etc rolleyes
But think of all the trees I must have saved over the years by using this method lol

The town I live in is really making it easier to recycle domestic waste, plastics, cans and paper, cardboard, clothes can all be put into green plastic bins and will be recycled. I wouldn't fancy the job of sorting it all out - plastics have a funny little symbol on that indicate its composition and hence method of recycling. Even some bottle tops have the mark!
One of my contribution to the environment is cutting up the plastic wraps that hold four packs of beer together......call me soft but I heard that little animals have been known to get caught up and trapped by these items when discared......and they dont bear a recycling mark so they end up in landfill!!! (anyone else do this?)
Oh - my other contribution - he he, now I'm a single man the heating is off more often than on! Unless I'm entertaining of course smile
(OK....I admit the last is really because summers finally here!)
I'm a recycling nut - I'm with Misschief on the paper, I have a pile of scrap paper on my desk here which is used instead of a new piece. I have a compost bin in the back even though there is no garden, which is used for all the kitchen organic waste, and all my plastic/glass and paper goes in the recycle bin.
I've even been known to bring used tea bags/fruit remains home from work to put in my compost bin!! redface surprisedops:
I try really hard not to use supermarket plastic carriers cos I've got a number of the cotton bags from Germany plus a fantastic wine carrier from Sainsbury's.
The heating hasn't been on since 1999 and my windows are mostly wide open all year round. They've only been closed twice in the last month cos of the road-refurbishment noise at night, but today they moved away so I can't hear it!!!
God... makes me sound sensible
Wish i could say what ido differently to the majority of house holders these days.. I use the recycling etc, I ain't got a composter as the garden is only big enuff to swing a cat (perhaps scraping its head down one side!!!...this is a joke!! don't want any of them activists getting into trouble kicking up a stink down here!) We've got a good couple of recycling centres within 5 mile raidus of here anyway... I am very good to the enviroment, recycling as much ale as possible, removing the bad parts and absorbing them into my body!!! The unfortunate part is the waste!!!! However I am not someone who pisses in the street.... However behind the hedge, well that's a different matter!
So there... My contribution to the enviroment is that I persevere to remove the ale from the pub and filter out the bad bits in me kidneys!

I have a cautionary tale about this. I don't throw away paper, which has been used only on one side. I also write short stories, which sometimes go through a few mutations before I'm happy with them and so I have old drafts, which I collect into a pile at home.
Now some of these stories have what one might call racey content. The other week I'd been doing some work at home and had obviously just grabbed a sheet from the pile. Next day I was just about to give someone (very important in the office) my written note when I turned it over to catch sight of the description of a woman masturbating. Needless to say I made an excuse for not handing over the piece of paper but I can't remember whether I've done it before - thing is I always put my name on the stories because I've had some of them published.
I now suffer from night terrors!!
