As a single guy, I'm afraid the whole ratio thing will make things a lot harder for you to get kick started, so to speak! 
So I reckon you're doing exactly the right thing now. Take a slower pace, get to know the people in the forums, stick your opinion in where you have something to say. Get active in here, then get your name down for one of the many events being organised. It does take time, it will take time for you to get used to us all etc.
But it's all worth it, not a better bunch will you meet :happy:
