Srne, what if those youths found out where you live and paid Miss Srne a visit whilst you weren't there? That would be a direct result of you 'helping' someone with whom you had no connection. He may be a war hero, but that still doesn't make going out in the street a clever thing to do - he reacted and got a beating for his trouble.

All I can say to this FB is that I doubt this would happen, the people who live in my area know that I am not the type of person to go to the police, I would solve the issue directly and finally! I am lucky enough to not only look physically capable of protecting myself and family but having the knowledge to do so.
I have trained in martial arts for 18 years and taught the military close quarter combat techniques.
I currently run courses on real street defence for women teaching them diluted vale tu do and counter attack submission ground fighting.
I was asked to run a free self defence course by a female member of SH last year but it never came about unfortunately as there is a huge need for people to know how to defend themselves in todays modern day environment.
Plus, Miss srne carries a can of pepper spray everywhere she goes lol wink

Isn't that illegal? Pepper spray's no good if she gets her handbag stolen first anyway. Or if there are too many for her and she's overpowered - then they'll just be pissed off because some of their number got pepper sprayed.
Sorry, I just think that once you're into a spiral of revenge, it's all bad - makes you and anyone else just as bad as those you're condemning. 'I'm bigger/harder/more skilled' doesn't cut it really - there's always someone bigger or more clever than you. Only stops when someone's dead or seriously hurt.
I was determined not to respond to Welshcouple because they'll see it as being flamed, but is losing a quad bike really worth running the risk of you or yours (even a beloved dog) getting hurt? I don't think so.
I think this thread's quite sad really - it's obvious that some people have strong views, but their actions are questionable. What's worse is when others applaud that behaviour, in my opinion. What you're actually condoning is illegal activity.
I don't think I'll bother looking again now. I'll go back to burying my head in the sand and plod on with my relatively stress-free life, where I don't have to constantly watch my back.
And no, I don't live in a pink-tinted utopia where all is good (see my earlier post re: neighbours)- I just deal with problems the correct/civilised way, without breaking the law.

So is mugging somebody.
And although I don't believe that you live in a rose tinted utopia or whatever it was, I think that everyone deals with problems in their own way. Your way is fine if it works for you, mine is fine if it works for me.
Unfortunately the law doesn't always work out in favour of the innocent party and although Im hardly a vigilante I do know that many people these days regard the law as something of a laughing stock and use this to their own advantage.
You have faith in the law FB, I on the other hand don't.
I don't think of myself as a Neanderthal but in my mind I would have more success in dealing with a situation directly than going to the police (thats again just my opinion).
The law dictates that someone must be caught or proven to have committed an act of vandalism on say a car as in the original post. If the police know who did it but have no proof, than you are in a position where nothing can be done and you have to wait until NEXT TIME to see if they are caught or proven to have committed the offence. Another load of damage to your vehicle mad
It is much more effective if you know who has committed the offence to deal with them directly. Yes this is taking the "law into our own hands" but it will in a vast majority of cases stop further damage and ease an already overrun justice system that cant deal with these issues anyway.
