Al-tho that can't be said for some members who hold grudges against admin/ops/mods for ages.
It does happen and I suppose it is human nature, but we try to get on with what we volunteered to do in the first place.

I still get threats made with regards my safety which stem from things I did when I was an Op

sorry didnt mean to hijack! redface
i can understand where you are coming from Widey
do people hijack threads in order to bounce off one another and lighten the mood without actually contributing to the discussion or topic of the thread for fear of what they want to say will get them a ban or a warning.
it probably happens to an extent so they can still be active on the forum.
i dont think the odd one or two posts is harmful but once it takes over the thread and can be a couple of pages of it like Dark says, its a real shame when a good thread goes this way, i personally get bored trawling through a couple of pages of hijack to the point where i probably wont post and just go find another thread
and i have been guilty of doing the hijacking once or twice myself.
i think there are a lot of people frustrated on the site/scene (and i dont mean sex) at the moment, we seem to be in a bit of a transition period, and hopefully we'll come out of the other side of it with a bang (or 5, ok i'm greedy)
It really does depend on the the thread and sometimes the thread starter.
Today I started a light-hearted thread, which has been pleasantly hijacked in a number of ways.
I don't start too many threads but when I do it is usually for a laugh and then as far as I'm concerned it's hijack territory and all the more fun for it, if it happens. I even used to have an invitation to hi-jack all my threads in me signature - those were the days.
As I don't start too many serious discussion threads I make sure that when I do start one, I make it clear in the first post that it is just that. In the event of a hijack of that type of thread I reserve the right (or anybody else can for that matter) to point out that what they've posted is a hijack and that they should stop.
Hijacking is a humorous tool here - we should not let it become a terrorist device that makes our lives a misery.
To answer Essex' question - I don't think it has any more significance than what I've said above.
I do agree with DF that people should not allude to unrelated gripes by making slanted hijackey comments in a thread of any description.

That's the trouble with forums/texts/pms/messaging....you can't always judge the context in which something is said.

Thats my problem reading or typing stuff wrong

But more specifically the "multiquote" ones.
It actually makes my head hurt and is very difficult to read

I've sat here trying to answer this and you've done it for me Tune
In my eyes there are two types of hijack .... those that are humourous mad tangent type ramblings "take this thread to cuba" type things, which are lighthearted in meaning.
The second is a more "political" hijack where one or more people are trying to gripe, steer or generally just muddy the water. There does seem to be a fair bit of this around lately.
Of course, just to add another dimension, threads can go off at tangents for many reasons!

Same here.....
I use another forum where if you quote you only quote the previous post thus reducing the multiple quote boxes that we get here...
*its a motorsport forum before you ask* biggrin

Essex has brought to light a very good topic. So what is a hijack? Can a little bit of fun in between posts be allowed?
It comes to something when a slight little joke within a thread is construed as being a hijack?
It's little wonder people don't bother posting - the fun is disappearing.. again.

Personally speaking, a little bit of fun in between posts isnt a hijack imo (see Blonde's above :gigglesmile, a little in-joke run of a few posts isnt really a hijack (imo) - I think we all like that really, the quick quips/smart comments and a couple of people batting off each other.....
it becomes an issue (again, imho) when the hijack goes on and on, quote on quote on quote, 2 or more people doing their own thing mid-thread until (a) the point of the thread is lost or (b) it appears to those who might have posted on topic to be a bit 'cliquey, private joke, or interrupting...and they dont post at all
Can I add an third type of hijacking??
Where two or three people invade a thread and start a soppy sort of 'I think you're great' and 'I think you're great too' kind of stuff. Hard to describe really but it doesn't take more than a stroll around some recent threads to see what I mean. It totally puts off others from posting which is more than a shame.
And I once again agree with HLB about the multiple quotes thing. There actually was thread a long time ago with that specific aim in mind and it made me get a headache very quickly. Saw the same sort of stuff this weekend too, cold dark room required.
lol

As a hijacker sad I've only ever done it to amuse everyone. It's never been (intentionally) malicious, and I hope no one has ever thought that of me. There have been many a thread that I wanted to say something, but could construct an adquate reply. Usually someone will be able to post how I wanted, so now I wait and read the responses.
I have (despite appearances) cut the hijacking out a lot, mainly as I feel that I may go to far and go to the place I don't want to go - hijacking for the sake of it.

but, is it hijacking for the sake of it or hijacking because you don't feel able to say what you want to (eggshell syndrome) ? wink

A combination of a lot of things. I had to leave SH or a bit due to not being able to afford an ISP. When I came back, it had changed (which I expected - change can be good), but also the atmoshpere had changed. Somedays I couldn't bear to be here because of it. I get frustrated with a lot of things. Mainly the attitude of a few that can't put things behind them. The community has fractured so many times (I don't want to get into that again - please), and I just wish that there was some way it could be repaired. I'm not naive enough to think for one moment that this will happen immediately (or even if t will happen  ), but with so many outthere gunning for us, I would love to think that it could be put to rest.
First and foremost I want everyone to get along regardless of "Where they are"
I tread on egg shells a lot. Why? Because, although language is a love of mine, sometimes it fails to describe how I feel, and how angry that I often feel "stuck in the middle" of things.....
And it doesn't help that I'm in two minds about everything (but hopefully not two faced  )
I don't know if this makes sense (probably not), but it won't be the first time will it?

Contrary to popular belief Jags, But I think you're Great :inlove: :inlove: :inlove: bolt
Off for a long overdue, and possibly well deserved beating!
I try to write as i feel. Though i do now really think about how i wtite it which can take the passion and edge off of what i want say or express. The fear of someone saying something which i take personally. I hate the fact that i believe only once have i said anything that could be construed as 'aimed' at someone when i was really angry at a post. Which I still think about with regret when replying to posts.
With the written discussion there is no aid given by means of body language or tone of voice. These things have to be conveyed in type. This results or should result in peoples input being thought out very carefully. Resulting in good dialogue. Sometimes this enevitably doesnt happen and a mistake (mostimes) is made that make another feel uneasy or unhappy about the answer.
I find it funny that putting it as basic as i can Someone will say "not meaning to hurt your feelings but....."etc
Well if you think it is going to hurt someones feelings why say it? Other than to provoke someone or to have some emotional impacct?
I think the wit in some one-liner posts can be talented and funny. Although it really only holds any interest for the people involved and does nothing for the other readers other than to throw their attention elsewhere.
Asprin anyone??

To close my comments on hijacking (I don't really understand the do's and don'ts of it all to be honest).. last Sunday I posted a thread which ended up being hijacked to the hilt... and you know what? I was told by numerous people that they hadn't laughed so much in ages and were actually having fun.

Yes, and I actually posted a relevant response to your question, which got lost in the middle of this vast hijack - I felt such a fool! redface surprisedops:

It's saddens me to think that people would take something so trivial as getting banned from a website (dear god there's thousands to choose from) as a personal and very deep insult and feel that they need to harbour a Shakespearean grudge against one person. Then again I've seen how things can transpire. I used to be a member of another site where 2 members had a very nasty, very public disagreement on the board. A few months later they met at a public event and one decided to stab the other quite badly.
I'm beginning to think that people who sell PCs should perform some psychological test on those wanting to buy a PC and connect to the internet.
If you are one of those people that harbours a grudge, go see a psychiatrist, counsellor, whatever 'cos you have issues you need to resolve.
I hope my hijacks (which I have done once or twice redface ) are humorous as that is their general intention. biggrin I have no agenda that I want to follow, I come here for a laugh and a flirt. It's what drew me to the site originally.
What does piss me off royally is barbed comments that are made, sometimes in context of the thread, sometimes out of context. mad
If you have a problem with folks either sort it out or fucking move on.
I'm sure there's people out there that don't like me, but I don't give a damn. I'll go out of my way to talk (and flirt ;) ) with people, but if you say you don't like me, fine. My world doesn't stop turning, nor does it crash into pieces. Life goes on. You can't please all the folks all the time. dunno :P

OK  That was partly moi.
Mike, I can understand that you felt a little put-off by the thread after you made a serious answer, but don't ever feel like it's not read or ignored. If it's in a thread I read it. Everyone who's reading that thread will read it. I remember a discussion like this with NeilinLeeds who said that he has spent hours getting a post together, checking it, re-editing it, re-reading it over and over and has finally decided that it's perfect then posted it and felt like it's been ignored, I've often felt the same, but they're not. For whatever reason people just don't react/respond to it, but don't think that it's ever not wanted and don't feel a fool, 'cos it's answers like that, that do pull threads back on topic. ;)
So to drag this essay and thread back on topic; Do I feel like I'm on eggshells when I post? No, but then again I have very little to do with the politics of the site. I have my little (but expanding ;) ) circle of people I consider my friends, or YABS (Young And Beautiful Swingers as I believe we're now called rotflmao ) and we have fun both on and off the forum which is why I keep coming here.
