..I don't think anyone disagrees with what you say Sxboy, but your comments aren't relevant to what was said about 3rd world immigrants being largely responsible for bringing AIDS into the UK...there are racists of all complexions, especially Mugabe, but that doesn't justify anyone else behaving like him.

My mention of the word 'fray' was an attempt at levity but this conversation has been very much a 'fray' in the second sense of your definition.
I did read your posts carefully and I think if you have read mine you will see that I have already made an effort to offer my views on the problem. In fact you did start the 'fray' as you were well aware - and made it clear in your post - that your ideas were not going to be accepted by everyone but that, in your opinion, they needed to be aired anyway. You were going to get people offering counter opinions, even if they were not as forthright as Jags was, so you have to accept responsibility for some of what has ensued. So I am asking you, since - like it or not - your earlier post has sparked up a controversial argument to clarify what it is you mean.
I am of the opinion that you were not being deliberately racist or xenophobic in your post but at the same time your idea sounds extremely biased and I am asking you to make your position a bit clearer because you may be in possession of information that some of us are not aware of - or maybe you were just offering your opinion in which case some here might be able to offer you some information to make your opinion more informed. I, for one, am more than happy to be able to discuss and debate an issue without becoming personal about it but you have to accept that if I disagree with you it is not because I think you, as a person, are wrong just that I don't accept some of your ideas for reasons I would then specify.
If you are not interested in continuing the debate along reasonable lines then it is pretty clear that you have come back merely to snipe at Jags (deserved or not) but you aren't adding anything to the discussion.

Ok, the first the line of the quote from Judys post tells you where he thinks is to blame.
The people who control immigration are our Government, Judy wants our government to do something about it even though it is not a vote winner or PC. He must mean our Government otherwise there would have been no mention of it not being a vote winner. He doesnt actually say that we should stop coming in or just 3rd world immigrants be subjected to screening but I really dont see any other way to interpret it!

Actually, what Judy says is that the people controlling immigration should be making sure fewer 3rd world carriers of HIV/AIDS should be admitted to the country. Judy is saying that it is the 3rd World immigrants who are the root of the problem. End of story. If that is not what Judy means then, Judy, please tell us what sorts of things you want the immigration authorities to be doing.
Judy is not being continually villified by people asking him to clarify his position. In conversation it is generally the case that one person offers a point, another person offers a counter point and the first person responds, etc. etc.. Judy seems to have effectively stated 'this is my opinion and that is all you are going to get' and does not seem interested in taking part in a conversation. Now after the things that have been said I can't say I blame Judy for feeling this way and didn't expect to see him again in this thread. But as he came back of his own accord I, for one, am offering a polite and friendly opportunity for Judy to discuss some of the other issues raised in this thread and to counter that claims that have been made that he is racist by more credible means than saying 'I have many black/white/green/blue/etc. friends therefore I can't be racist'. If Judy doesn't want to partake in the conversation that is fine but only leads us to draw our own conclusions about the basis for his ideas.
On further reflection, and because of Judy's posts since rejoining this 'fray', I am beginning to think I might have been a bit too harsh on Jags...

Regardless of the advertiser's motives, it's still up to each of us to make our own decisions and not rely on other people to protect us.
Which is one of the reasons a lot of people in this community don't play with total strangers. I'm not saying people you've taken the time to get to know are guaranteed free of infection, but you can at least get a good idea of whether they might be the type to deliberately deceive you.

if it had been 100 years ago it may have been smallpox.... it just happens to be that when medicine advances and hopefully they will find something that can treat and destroy HIV, then something else will come along.....
i would hope that anyone would be honest enough to disclose whether they have HIV, that way you then have the decision to play or not to with full knowledge....

Perhaps it's the way some folk like to hijack specific informative threads and turn them into personal agendas that have absolutely nothing to do with the original point of the thread. Anyway, I'm glad the majority are at last discussing the original point of the thread
