our kids use the same pc and for some reason i can't clear the swinging heaven website from the history bar using the standard way of clearing history, has anyone else had this problem and can anyone help.
never had this problem before, I do hope it's not an indication of the site's new owners
Thanks for advice devil bagpipes but have already tried that and no joy,
any more ideas?
how about the obvious idea of setting up seperate user accounts for the kids and password protecting your own account?
what happens when you go to those locations i mentioned earlier, are there any folders there?
try installing crap cleaner is has a section to delete history and temp files from within IE. Let me know how you get on.
yeah crap cleaner is very good and even better its free.
yeah devils, there are folders and i deleted the whole thing and still no joy. am i the only person to have asked this since the new owners came in? I think it's terribly sad of them to have done this and kinda taints the ethos of the site.
oh, ps thanks for the advice steph, i will take it if can't find an alternate solution
it sounds like an IE problem to me and not the website. where is it that your seeing the swinging website appear, is it in the address bar where is autocompletes address's? or when you select the history button within IE you see the site listed?
it's in the auto address bar, no matter how many times i clear or close down and re-boot IE. everything else gets deleted from the auto address except this site?!?
appreciate the effort guys
OK now i get you.
go to internet properties
control panel > internet properties
click on the content tab then select the autocomplete button and deselect the web addresses tick box. Click ok and restart IE that should do the trick.
yeah that works devils n super nova. however if i switch it back on again after clearing, exiting and re-entering then it's still there but then i'm just being pedantic now. just find it wierd that i can't make it go. have installed firefox now so that should make it easier
hey just thought at least this is helping me reach my 50 posts, lmao
i used to run crap cleaner weekly when i was using windows. used to delete everything it suggested and never had a problem. its amazing how much cack a pc picks up such as registery entries and duplicate files. if i were you id clean it all off.
combination of crap cleaner, adaware and spybot should keep your system clean. Also bumped up my posts as well. Any more PC probs lol
Hi,
I trust you've got this resolved now. For your information, there is no way a website or the respective owners can control any aspect of your address bar autocomplete. Nor can we force auto completion of form elements, only disable them.
Please do not assume this is something we've done, it is an isolated issue and should be treated as such.
If anyone is having trouble with autocomplete, review this guide:
Or for clarifcation that this cannot be enabled by the site owners/programmers, go here:
Cheers,
Paul
i left the days of spyware and antivirus scans behind since i ditched windows and started using ubuntu linux. viruses are only written for windows, spyware is not a prob with firefox as a browser. the "block javasacript" option cuts that crap out. no software updates every 5 mins are needed. and all linux software is open source which means its free to use and distribute.
linux programmers do it for love not money and it shows. i cant recomend enough people try out a linux live-cd. the u.s government even say that windows is not safe to use.
Just a thought but it has not been set as your homepage or in your favourites by any chance?
Also if you buy computer shopper this week there is a free clean up McAfee disc, do not know if it is any use but given everything else you have tried why not give it a go.
fair enough noel, it still is there though when i switch auto complete back on. even run crap cleaner but i guess i have to accept that it is a personal pc issue. have installed firefox now and that seems to be great. must say though that despite recent changes that great people still exist on this site and in this forum. thanks guys you've all been very helpful in ur efforts. long may the community never change.
oh one more pc question devils, when i boot up my pc it says strike any key to continue but i can't find the 'any key' anywhere on the keyboard.
LMAO an oldy but a goody
my advice is go to your firefox bookmarks and click on the themes and extensions..........there are some great add ons there worth downloading in the extensions page.
