Anyone know any reasonable hotels that let you check in in the morning and pay for the day rather than a night.

One of the big Motorway Services type hotel chains, have a very cheap mid week rate. So although you can't pay for the day, you could probably book two nights, ring them to say you are not going to make it to check in on the first night and check in on the following morning.......a bit of a faff on (and I think it has to be booked in advanced - so not suitable for a spur of the moment), but it means getting the hotel for two nights, for the price you would usually pay for one night.
