How can we encourage people to post?

I have been sitting here wondering for days that we seem to need an injection people posting on the forums it seems of late to be really slow you can tell from the first page how quickly post move off the page and new ones appear that things have slowed somewhat.
I have tried opening a forum chat room thinking it might get people from here and new people popping in so we could try to encourage people to come here.
I think there is room enough here for oldies and newbies alike
There always seems to people showing in the café that never seem to post, how can we encourage you to make threads and post?
What are others views?
How do we bring a buzz back in this place?
Or is it just me that seems to think things seems slow?
Is opening a forum chat room a good way to encourage people to use the forums?
offer them a tenner
lp
Anything is worth a try.
After years of being on SH I go on chat now, something I never did until early this year, and it's clear there are a lot of chatters who never look at here but as I said until January I never popped 'over there' either, now I'm addicted twice as bad!

Nick Splendid's new dildo :giggle:

and the only way that anyone is seeing it is, in action and about to enter them anally. wink

I've been chatting to one of those people who lurks but doesn't post. She gave the following reasons for not posting
1. She's not clever enough, and has nothing witty or clever to say (I wonder which forum shes reading lol )
2. Some of the MODS like nothing more than to lock newbies threads. She named names.
So clearly we need less clever people here and less officious MODS wink

Hi Ms lurker! :welcome: look at my posts lol
Are you sure you are looking at these forums?
Come on give it a go you never know until you try!
Be a devil!
maybe we could have a sticky where all shy newbies go first time just to break them in gently.
Just an idea.
And we can all pop in there to make them welcome at first.
At least we then would know where to find them and encourage them. dunno

No Keeno, we need less people fighting with each other (um constantly) less nit picking, and I think the general way to get people back posting is for everyone just to leave well alone. If people aren't posting at the minute so beit, they'll be back in their own time.
The more people make a mountain out of a molehill, the bigger it'll get. I've taken a bit of a side step in posting lately, but I'll be back to full form when I'm ready.
I'm only reporting what I was told. wink
I'm not sure how we gave the impression of being witty and intelligent either. redface
But it is interesting that they thought the MODS enjoyed locking newbies threads. When a thread is locked is a reason posted?

I have got a pm message from an mod when I have had a thread locked.
I have seen some locked that are more of a statement than to encourage peoples views.
If that makes sense!
But you dont seem to get many locked threads now do you agree?
There are less locked threads for sure.
However if you ignore the threads you've started MIny I'm not sure there have been many threads at all. smile
Is the reason for locking posted on the thread. I really can't remember confused
Im not a mod but a chat room ops so have no control over the forums but what I usually see is either "this thread has been locked because of??" Or "If you wish to know why this thread was locked then please pm a mod"
So I think the answer to the question about why a thread is locked is above. lol

Just lets hope that this thread is not going to turn into a "Nock a Mod a Day" thread.
I will remain in the background untill some form of sanity returns,

It is a shame if it does at that wasent my intent!
I am just asking of ways to move forward with ideas of how to inject some life back here.
I am not looking in past but for the future.
I just don't think some get my intent! dunno
I think the mods and ops do a fantasic job and I have never said otherwise, I find them very fair anD I for one have never said otherwise.
Maybe some just take me the wrong way! :dunno:

Sorry my brain is quicker than my fingers surprisedops:
Just a friendly dig at how many threads you've started.
Please not 'friendly dig'
I'm not knocking the MODS just I was interested that was the impression a newbie had.

I know I am embarrassed at the amount I started on Saturday but I was in a mischievous mood I do apologise. I haven’t posted one until today, I am pulling back on the amount I do, I am sure people get fed up with seeing my name!

I've just had a quick look back at the forum pages to September. The newest member to have one locked, joined in June 2008. It was a joke - they are always locked. Other locked ones, had questions answered or the lock was explained. To say 'she named names', I would say is inflammatory.
In my opinion, we need do nothing. Or, if we do anything, some people need to stop making everything political and taking things personally.

I've told you once, so I'll tell you again.........why let the facts get in the way of a good whinge/Sun story/argument* delete as necessary

Bloody Hell!!!!!!!
All I did was state what a newbie said to me when I asked them why they didn't post in the forum.
They didn't say "oh all the MODS love locking newbies"
they said a name. The reason I said they named names was to stop any feeling that it was all MODS. To stop things being political it would perhaps be better if everyone didn't just jump on anything they didn't agree with.
The thread asked a question. I stated an opinion given to me that I thought was relevant and now it seems everyone is in a bloody tizzy.
What have I learnt?
Newbies don't post because some of the forumites are unforgiving and pernickety. This is or can be a very unforgiving place to be.
