How do you rate the no smoking ban?

I simply can't see the pleasure or point of smoking.
Having said that I think people are capable of choosing for themselves - although it being addictive makes it hard to stop.
But what I would love to be able to ban is smoking within breathing distance of a child. Both my parents smoked, and us kids spent whole evenings sitting peering through a blue fug of smoke. My lungs have always been the first thing that stops me doing any exercise. Creased up gasping for breath is not good when you are 12 and just run half-way round the running track.
Can any smokers tell me what they like about smoking? An honest question - not getting at anyone here.

Go back to your GP or asthma nurse and get it controlled. If you've done that and have inhalers then it might be because you're not using your inhaler(s) correctly.
i have regular check ups and i am using my inhalers correctly, i also keep a check on my peak flow
as someone else has said on this thread .... its not always possible to have asthma controlled 100 %

Non smokers dont know what theyre missing, the social gatherings outside the pub door are fascinating. Since the ban Ive made loads of new buddies
As Dave dosent smoke (gave up 20 years ago) Ive always smoked outside so having to do so in public places has not bothered me in the least, although it bothers Dave as now when we're in the company of smokers we all go outside for a fag and leave him behind to mind the drinks, watch coats and hand bags etc.
So the non smoker among us is still whinging

As a smoker from Scotland the ban has been in place for 2 years and for one am glad of it. Its cleaner nicer ( tho you can smell the guys toilets now :sad: )
I dont mind having to go out for a cig it has cut me down from potentially 10-20 on a night out to about 4 so I dont stink so much ( perfume can only mask so much) and its easier on my budget ( yay more
money lol)

The problem with the ban is that in the small town where i live the non-smokers are not supporting venues.
All 3 restaurants have now closed over the winter and two of the four pubs. One of the ones that is surviving is only doing so because it is quietly breaking the law.
The cost to the economy is huge and if many pubs do not have a super summer there will be more closures.
Soon there will only be large chain pubs/restaurants left and no choice.
I do not object to the ban as such. What I object to is the way the government have made it too difficult for pubs to offer a comfortable alternative for customers who do smoke, even if it is outside.
For all of the drinkers, chocolate eaters, footballers, drivers ......... just remember that anyone could be the next target of the health and safety police!

As a smoker (who stopped last year and started again as the weather went really wet and cold), I have no problem with the ban. I always smoke outside at home, so dont have a problem having to go outside on a night out, at work or in another other situation. I dont smoke inmy home, so would never dream of smoking in anyone elses home. However, after spending the last week in an hotel, I wasn't very happy at having to stand outside the hotel for a smoke each night (their web site said they had smoking rooms, but when I checked in, they said they no longer had any smoking rooms) :cry:
My only gripe (if it can be called that) is that I think pubs/clubs should not have been forced to introduce the ban if they didnt want to. They should have been encouraged to introduce it, but I think the landlord/lady should have had the final option on whether they wanted a non-smoking establishment.

Its rare these days but I still like the smell of a really good quality cigar or pipe tobacco.
One of the nastiest aspects of smoking was the day after smell, being the first in a pub in the morning getting that awful whiff of rancid fug.
I stopped smoking a long time ago and avoided public places for years. But now I think the atmosphere has changed in most public venues. There must be a lot of hassle getting in and out of clubs and such like.

we are both smokers and both smoke at the back door, we dont go out drinking that often so the smoking ban doesnt affect us and if we do go out then we dont mind going outside, also its nice when you go out for a meal and there isnt smoke blowing in your face.
what does really piss me off is that we do go outside and the people who are against smoking are still moaning and complaining.
there are rumours that the smoking ban will be lifted in certain places although im not sure how true that is.
another thing that got me was on the news the other day,it was saying that in westyorkshire the drinking/alcohol death rate has gone up drastically.....then went on to say that the gov wants to impose a smoking permit!!!
so everyone get your drinks out and put your cigs out.

was in the nightclubs on saturday night and the smell imo is much worse now every pub/club smells of horrible damp and the toilets really do stink to high heaven, thats without BO and people passing wind there is nothing to mask the smell now
