No need to be coy Hayley . It was me that said that in a reply to your confusing PM . We dont have to keep it secret , we think SH is a bit of fun on the internet . It has great intelligent and funny people and is most definately the best of its kind weve encountered .

Im not here to sympathise , or to judge . Were here for a giggle thats all .
If youre suggesting that the internet OR dogging is a replacement or reasonable substitute for a loving relationship then put quite simply theyre not .
No offence intended or arguament meant , but I think ill stay out of your threads in future unless invited cos everything I say seems to rub you up the wrong way , and also because id like to see some more entertaining stuff at the top of the board and I dont want to keep bumping them .
My opinion for what its worth is that as far as SH is concerned complaints and depressing overtures about things going wrong almost always illicit a negative response from all but the newest members . Perhaps it would all be more fun and less confrontational if we kept our very personal problems to ourselves (or in e mail and PM) and joined in the many more light and interesting discussions that are available here .

I`m glad this was brought up, because it`s a sentiment that has been voiced before, which for me personally, and for a few others, is not actually the case.
In my case I have very few offline friends who I can interact with as fully as I`d like to, they seem to be of a different breed! That is not to say I`m an unpopular saddo, simply that I get more satisfaction from life interacting with the kind of openminded (amongst other things ;) ) people who are rife on SH. Now, I could have carried on hanging out with only people who didn`t stimulate me, or just not bothered interacting with people at all, but neither of these options appealed to me much, so I did something about it! When I found SH, I recognised that I would be able to build the kind of real life circle of friends a personality like mine demands. I have been determined that this would extend beyond the keyboard, and it has, but due to distance and finance, the main bulk of my contact is acheived through the SH forum.
As a result we both have many close friends here, and just because we are separated by the PC, it is not an indication that the person I am interacting with is any less of a person as a result. For people like me, bust ups on here are just as valid as falling out with any friend in the flesh.
For some here, this forum is just a bit of fun, and that`s fine, others choose to make more of it than that, and that`s valid too, as long as it IS fulfilling, then whatever approach is not an indication of `not having a life` (Big G, I know you didn`t say that)
People just need to realise that some things mean different things others. It`s a personal thing. I suppose it depends what your scheme is, and what you decide to make of it.

I think its fair to say that different folk are here for different things. And its not all to do with how much time you spend on here (in my case - far too much 
) but all to do what your reasons for spending any time at all here are.
I also don't think there is any need to have a go at folk that are here for different reasons to you.
What's I find interesting is any of my real life friends who I've intorduced this site to (and that would be folk who share my sense of humour and interests in life) never seem to fall under its spell. I am the only one who became addicted.

I'm not much of a people person, and I'm the same online as in real life in that way. However, what places like this offer is an opportunity to be "around" people without having to actually be around people, so to speak. It's a chance to be more selective and more in control of socialising, and yes, very easy to lean on the names on the screen for support sometimes, if you've either nobody else you think you can talk to, or feel comfortable posting such things on the net (not something I'd do, but I can see the need).

Just think of the place as football. To some it's just a dumb bunch of overpaid whingers kicking a plastic sphere round for however long it drags on for. To others it borders on a religion to crusade and fight for (either verbally or physically).

I.E. see how many times you have been pissed off at the automated message you get from customer service! How many times have you been totally pissed off when a geek tells you it is a computer error that has cause you so much grief!
But you then become a person who is willing to interact with people on the internet and you become that geek - 'It was only a joke, mis-understanding' Blah Blah!.
Look at this forum as all others - it is real people posting, real people who want to have an interaction with others, some what to laugh, others what to be supported. Treat people with the respect they deserve, as you would wish to be respected - whether online or in RL. Works wonders!

If the answer is yes, whether that's because you like them, or you hate their guts, then you need to accept that there's a bit more to this than simple chit-chat or, and trust me on this, if and when you do meet them in person, you're lining yourself up for one hell of a shock.

If this was a site about collecting comics or astronomy or classic cars then yes it would just be a website. However this site is about interpersonal relationships, which means it is about people, real people, who belong to a community that actually do meet eachother either socially or sexually.

It works well for those who have learned to use it and it is free.
