was a report on the local news about how much people actually spend at xmas, this ranged from a couple of hundred pounds to a couple of thousand pounds :scared:
i'm lucky if i spend a couple of hundred pounds on xmas i wish it could be more but finances dictate what i can spend....it set me off thinking what do others spend on xmas,do you keep within a set budget or do you just go mad and sod the expense and worry about it in the new year when the credit card bills drop through the letter box..
Ive relented and bought a pack of cards from the pound shop, for 99pence, bargain if you ask me.

i'm still using a pack of 50 xmas cards i bought 3 years ago and there's still 40 left rolleyes
I have no idea how much I spend at Xmas or any other time of the year and that suits me.
I work hard, pay my bills and stuff and what's left is mine ;) My salary covers my mortgage and other outgoings first, what's left is spent as is needed (oh and on underwear..oh and shoes..and er..perfume redface ) ;)

We don't spend that much considering we have 3 children and family to buy for. I said about £300 but Ian thinks £400.
We won't go into to debt for Christmas and we can't afford to spend any more rolleyes

:lol2: Neither of us drink :lol2:
I do have a knicker buying habit so I think that explains the difference innocent
Hi cream
As part of a large family we used to spend ridiculous amounts of money and be really pressured to find the "perfect" presents. Now we have all calmed down and cut down on money ( we agree limits) and it is so much nicer. Christmas shopping has actually been a pleasure this year!
lol .
My nephews are still spoiled tho, but they are worth it.

Too much!!!!
It's my birthday the week before christmas, and I usually end up spending any pennies/vouchers i get for that on others peoples pressies, rather than buying something for myself as was intended!
I've still got cards from years ago, but always seem to end up buying new ones anyway.
Den gets around that by not sending anyone a card!
I probably end up spending about £500, not intentionally, and not including nights out, work meals etc (and we don't have kids) so it's really a stupid amount of money to spend, but i usually buy in bits n pieces and I've never really thought about adding it up!
I wouldn't dare spend on a credit card- I'd still be paying it off the next year!

hi double...yeah i've done that in the past, got a buy a present for so and so but it's got to be better than what THEY buy him/her...that didn't last long.... now i am off the opinion it's not what you spend it's just the giving of the present that matters however inexpensive it cost.
I might decide to put a tree up, anyone know where I can get a cheap fairy?

Its to commercial these days and I think Christmas should be like the world cup....every four years!
I always spend too much, Its for the Kids we only have one child a daughter and she tends to get spoilt but she's worth it.....

So we have to put up with going out on penalties twice in one year? Sadistic or what.........
I`m having the cheapest Christmas ever this year and have only spent approx £6 each on my `s cost me no more than £40 (5 pressies to buy) and I`m sticking to that. If I had more money I`d spend it but I`m very very skint this year.
Thankfully my sons are grown up now so I find I don't have to spend as much on them. When they were kids and were into Action Man, Power Rangers et al I found I was spending a fortune!
I try to find gifts that suit the person now regardless of the cost but never spend more than a few hundred pounds all together these days.
The trouble is, especially when kids are young you can just keep spending and it gets into the realms of silly money. A well chosen and thoughful gift means more than the price tag to me.
For my birthday, my best mate made me a clock which I love and that means more to me than if he'd spent a lot of money.

Absolutely.
I asked a guy at work today if he`d done his Christmas shopping to which he replied, "oh I leave it to the last minute then I dont have to think too much about what I`m buying" I just looked at him and thought how much that said about him! rolleyes
I have three kids aged from 4 to 7 and they think that I send as much money as I can afford to santa and he buys them presents from that.
Last year just before christmas I got a big back payment of tax credits and bought them a two screen in car dvd player. Well I say it was for them, actually it benefits me more because they're much quieter and fight less on the 2 hour journey to my parents lol This year I've spent about £100 between all three of them. Nothing huge, nothing too expensive but things that they've all shown an interest in during the year. My boss at work has spent over £300 on each of her children. Even if I had that amount of money to spare I don't think I'd spend it all on them. Christmas seems to a lot of kids to be all about getting huge expensive Christmas presents and the real meaning is completely lost on them.
Give me a table full of delicious food, a few little presents and some quality family time over expensive presents that keep the kids in their bedrooms and away from the family everytime.

Same here Maz sad
We have a budget of £50 for each of our kids, about £20 on my parents, about £10 for my sisters and their other half's, and a couple of gifts for close friends. We always say we are not buying each other anything but I always get Steve something redface
How much do I spend at Christmas?
Maybe a little too much.
But only because it's Mrs Kiss' birthday in December too, so any pressies I'd safely stashed away over the course of the year get given to her on her birthday because I'm silly and I get all excited. lol
I do love giving gifts and I try my best to be thoughtful. I tend to leave most of my shopping until the week before but then spend 1 or 2 days in the shops, refusing to be defeated by the crowds.
To fecking much but dont really notice a dent in th money as i start buying in january for xmas and buy when i have money left at the end of the week think this year my son has had about 300 spent on him dek about 200 parents 50 ish other people about 20 (brothers sisters friends ) kids around 10
in edit come end of november if it aint there they dont get it ive had a new trampolene stashed in the down stairs toilet since august son still has no idea he is getting it cant stand december shopping you end up not getting what you wanted and spending more
I agree, we spend too much. A few years back I started saving with the voucher scheme (luckily I wasn't part of the horror this year that left poor people devastated..), but for us its the only way to get by. It's sad because the whole main reason for Christmas becomes lost in all this money worry and debt. I abs. refuse to get a credit card to pay for what I haven't got
probably £1000 ish for 2 kids, food and everthing else.
