was a report on the local news about how much people actually spend at xmas, this ranged from a couple of hundred pounds to a couple of thousand pounds :scared:
i'm lucky if i spend a couple of hundred pounds on xmas i wish it could be more but finances dictate what i can spend....it set me off thinking what do others spend on xmas,do you keep within a set budget or do you just go mad and sod the expense and worry about it in the new year when the credit card bills drop through the letter box..
Ive relented and bought a pack of cards from the pound shop, for 99pence, bargain if you ask me.
Too much!!!!
It's my birthday the week before christmas, and I usually end up spending any pennies/vouchers i get for that on others peoples pressies, rather than buying something for myself as was intended!
I've still got cards from years ago, but always seem to end up buying new ones anyway.
Den gets around that by not sending anyone a card!
I probably end up spending about £500, not intentionally, and not including nights out, work meals etc (and we don't have kids) so it's really a stupid amount of money to spend, but i usually buy in bits n pieces and I've never really thought about adding it up!
I wouldn't dare spend on a credit card- I'd still be paying it off the next year!

hi double...yeah i've done that in the past, got a buy a present for so and so but it's got to be better than what THEY buy him/her...that didn't last long.... now i am off the opinion it's not what you spend it's just the giving of the present that matters however inexpensive it cost.
I might decide to put a tree up, anyone know where I can get a cheap fairy?
Its to commercial these days and I think Christmas should be like the world cup....every four years!
I always spend too much, Its for the Kids we only have one child a daughter and she tends to get spoilt but she's worth it.....
I`m having the cheapest Christmas ever this year and have only spent approx £6 each on my `s cost me no more than £40 (5 pressies to buy) and I`m sticking to that. If I had more money I`d spend it but I`m very very skint this year.
Thankfully my sons are grown up now so I find I don't have to spend as much on them. When they were kids and were into Action Man, Power Rangers et al I found I was spending a fortune!
I try to find gifts that suit the person now regardless of the cost but never spend more than a few hundred pounds all together these days.
The trouble is, especially when kids are young you can just keep spending and it gets into the realms of silly money. A well chosen and thoughful gift means more than the price tag to me.
For my birthday, my best mate made me a clock which I love and that means more to me than if he'd spent a lot of money.
To fecking much but dont really notice a dent in th money as i start buying in january for xmas and buy when i have money left at the end of the week think this year my son has had about 300 spent on him dek about 200 parents 50 ish other people about 20 (brothers sisters friends ) kids around 10
in edit come end of november if it aint there they dont get it ive had a new trampolene stashed in the down stairs toilet since august son still has no idea he is getting it cant stand december shopping you end up not getting what you wanted and spending more
I agree, we spend too much. A few years back I started saving with the voucher scheme (luckily I wasn't part of the horror this year that left poor people devastated..), but for us its the only way to get by. It's sad because the whole main reason for Christmas becomes lost in all this money worry and debt. I abs. refuse to get a credit card to pay for what I haven't got
probably £1000 ish for 2 kids, food and everthing else.
