What can you do to start off labour when you are overdue? Tried curry, pineapple, the trampoline, raspberry leaf tea but to no avail.
I just know theres some pearls of wisdom out there ,as well as some bizarre and barmy ideas so come on folks what else ?
sperm... that is supposed to soften the cervix.
long walks.
i was just about to say exactly what splendid said.. sperm is the best way it encourages thingys to happen.... not the best fun at 9months preggers but it works.. but he has to come!!! else it wont.. !! ew ew ew weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee cant believe ive said that you about your daughter.. i need a wash now... rolleyes
Lol i couldnt believe I advised it either , although i said it in a more round about way....said do wot u did to get baby in there !
None of it. rolleyes
Four kids, tried everything at least 12 times, still no sign of a naturally occurring labour to be seen.
All four had to be artificially induced. I think I may be an elephant.
confused
Hope something works for you hun. Good luck kiss

The best way of all. An orgasm. It tones up the uterus, releases natural oxytocin and softens the cervix.
pineapple worked for me....ate a whole fresh one and drank a litre of pineapple juice on the thursday, and on friday went into labour.....for the first time out of my 5 pregnancies
nipple twiddling is supposed to work although it didnt for me....neither did curry, chilli, a hot bath and a bottle of white lightning cider, sex or walking LOL
my mum swore by a large drambuie and a spoon of cod liver oil

plump maybe, but certainly no elephant. wink
My midwife told me that sperm can work but it works better if you swallow it....
Other than that just try to keep as active as possible and baby will come when he/she is ready.
Oh don't under any circumstances go down the castor oil and orange juice route :scared:.
Good luck kiss

I did that with my first; she was two weeks late and arrived at the end of May 1990 ie during a particularly hot early summer. It didn't help - just made me need the toilet confused
I think you're right though, they come when they're ready.
doing the shopping in asda did it for me, Dave was in scotland and I knew when my baby was here the family would be about and I needed to feed them, went shopping in the afternoon, daughter came next day, 6 days late..

one good thing about the sex, cant get any more pregnant than you already are :laughabove:
when the bun is cooked the oven shall ping, and scream, shout, curse, break fingers, and sweat......... confused
Tried alsorts with my first and only curries, climbing huge fecking hills, as many hot baths as one could take, but he just wasnt cooked
He eventually landed 18 days past the due date rolleyes
Being a midwife (officially in 5 weeks anyway lol ), I have to say that unless the cervix is soft and ready, nothing is going to get labour going. Everything that people have suggested are all things we suggest to women, but we have no clue if they work or if they're just ready to go into labour and then attribute it to the shagging/pineapple/walking/nipple tweeking/ etc etc!
Most women are offered a membrane sweep when they are 7 days overdue and again, this is only 50/50 but at least the midwife will be able to tell you if your cervix feels soft and ready if you choose to have this.
All the textbooks and research still dont know (after all these centuries of women having babies!!) exactly what it is that triggers labour...but at least you feel like you're doing something if you try all the things people have mentioned biggrin
Good luck!!
KB x x x
pink champagne worked for my mum when i was 2 weeks late.
Personally, I'd choose the shagging, i suppose it'd have to be spoons.....

long walks.

Works every time when overdue, as long as the woman orgasms too, starts the contractions off.
The hospital advised me to roll my nipples  So I did, wandered the hospital corridors rolling my nipples... nothing happened, but it was most enjoyable biggrin
Ooooooh no it doesn't!
Gosh... SH - what a site... gratuitous perving, a fair bit of sex with like-minded deviants and now I am even learning stuff too!
 Cheers ladies... I'm storing these all away in case I ever need 'em!

Trust you to be the awkward one ;)lol
Don't listen to her, she just doesn't want to spit
Semen contains prostaglandins, so if consumed will enter the blood stream and assist, however as suggested earlier, if the cervix isn't ready then it just won't happen.
Orgasm started me off with no 1 and no 2 was in a hurry and just happened!

I was two weeks late with mine and had to go in for artificial insemination. My waters didn't break so this lady came from no wear with a huge knitting needle (no introduction) and started jabbing my bits with it. It was at this point they discovered I was crowning (poor baby) Surprised he didn't have a hole in his head.
All over and done with in 4 hours though, so was quite pleased with that biggrin

Wasn't it a bit late for that if you were due to deliver?
