I am deeply upset that lassy has put this post on the forum, i am not making money out of this event, i dont want to argue , but i do have receipts for this event, why didnt members come and talk to me rather than going behind my back , i thought these members where friends lol, i only arranged this social due to popular demand, there are only 3 single females on the list , so i changed the entry fee for single females , i have been to nottingham social before and was allowed free entry, if i hadnt paid for venue already i would have cancelled this note we are new to arranging social events
however i will charge £ for everyone which maybe a lose to us sad
dont run it at a lose, charge enough per person to cover costs smile
I am sure no-one wanted you (or any social organiser) to run an event at a loss but the discussion was about the disparity in the pricing structure...
If everyone is asked to pay £4 then I forsee no problem with that and it shouldn't run at a loss....

i have no further comment at moment i am too upset sorri xx
NEVER once did i mention your name or question your profit!
It was a thread for thought as to why anyone would do such an odd price structure for JUST A SOCIAL in a pub. It gives off a strange idea. It wasnt a personal vendetta against you as I never mentioned you in it at all i mearly stated....A SOCIAL IN DERBY!!!

In what way were people going behind your back ?
You seem to be no stranger to the forums, I think posting in here appears to be the most open and up front way of drawing attention to something that a lot of people find very important.
If the consensus had been that it was ok to discriminate against large sections of people on here, would you have so "deeply upset" ??
i just wish members had come to me first before going in forum thats all, i have no further comment

IM sure the 'going behind my back' was just a figure of speech.. to what looked like a witch hunt... The origional title of 'charging at socials' was not a general question, it was aimed at ONE specific event..
And as such shud have been a question directed straight to the organiser and not a 'Look everyone... See what the organisers doing at THAT social.

maybe it was brought up because this is (as far as I am aware) the FIRST time in the history of SH that someone has tried to use this type of pricing structure for this type of event.... and I have been attending SH socials/munches for the best part of 5 years......
so it is the principle of the thing that is being discussed and maybe in the new rules for calling an event a "social" this SHOULD be put in.......
I don't really care if it was 2 or 20 single fems on the list... because then next person who organises a social will look round and say "well that derby social did it, why shouldn't I????"
in edit: no has said the price to go to the event is "disgusting".... but would it have not been sensible to say, I have "X" amount of people going.... I have spent "Y" on everything.... so I am going to charge "Z" per Head to cover...
if you need 4 pound per head to cover... then charge 4 pounds per head.... what people are saying is in a pub atmosphere where the costs are the same, why are you using one set of people to subsidise everyone else....
i have no further comment on this issues
please note we are new to arranging socials, this is a one off never again lol. i have reciepts ty xxx

Minxie, witch hunt is far too strong? I think all that people were asking, and rightly so IMO, was actually a more general question about whether or not charging different rates for admission to what turned out to be a simple pub social depending on sex or relationship status is within the rules, or the spirit of socials organised on SH. It was a general question on the principle of the thing, and that's a perfectly reasonable question to ask.
My personal opinion is that no, it's not reasonable to charge single guys twice as much per head as they charge the male / female half of a couple, and the thread was I think posted in a deliberately vague way by the OP purely to see what others thought? I don't think any of it was intended to disparage the efforts of the organiser, or cause offence or upset.

Hi,
I would not take things too personally. People will always moan what every it is. As long as you are able to make more people happy than you do sad then you must be doing something right.
You might feel that sometimes there are swinging police. People that have such strong views on the scene that they try and stop anyone doing anything that they feel does not match there views. Be assured though, that even though there are these sort of people about, their oppion has the same weight as everyone else.

Ok....
So in your view is it fair and right to charge one gender one price and another gender a different price to go to the same social ?
No-one is acting like "Swinging Police" at all......We are asking a question......
And while we're here....There are other socials organised here where an entrance fee is charged yet the overheads are virtually zero.......
Surely the "Swinging Police" would have something to say about those if they were here dunno
A question was asked (and as yet has not been answered unless I missed it).....
The social will go ahead and everyone will have a great time ,of that I'm sure , and I hope there is surplus in the kitty so a charity can benefit as well....
I find it strange that bringing something to the attention of SH members through SH forum board is regarded as going behind someone’s back. The original thread was highlighting the principle of charging single men £4, couples £2 each and females £0. As I saw it if everyone was charged the same rate no one would be having this discussion so I don’t accept the argument that it is a witch hunt.
If for my next social I was to say that everyone from Derby will be charged £4 and people from West Midlands can come for free, would that be acceptable NO. Would I expect you to put a thread up YES. Maybe SH should close down the notice boards and let everyone do as they please behind everyone’s back.
It seems very simple to me, when a social thread is posted tell everyone what the entrance fee will be if any. That way everyone can see what the cost is and decide whether they want to attend and support the event. No one expects a social to be run at a loss and no one would question the amount charged provided it was fair and reasonable for everyone.
If a organiser is not able to get the numbers through the door to make the night viable then don’t organise the event. No one is forcing anyone to organise socials. If people didn’t come to my socials I would stop doing them. Socials are not a popularity contest, it’s about giving what people want and not what the organiser wants, and by doing that they will support the event.
well has a woman myself i had no intension of upsetting women , i a, trying my best here to keep people happy if you give me chance ok
, ive changed everything now ok .

Are you insinuating that there might be sexism in the world of swinging ;)

Dont think anyone is trying to upset 'or rock the boat'!!! we are just confused by the price structure so maybe just maybe if you could explain the intention of unfair enterance fee then this could come to a close and we could all find something else to debate...like someone said..the theads are for opionions and questions and this is a prime example of this xxx
Locked as issue has been resolved
