I just bust my chatroom cherry!

Well, after 7 months of clicking, cursing and swearing, thanks to the able assistance of Mistertld a.k.a. Kent Host - who explained how the flippin' think works! - I have just completed my first ever 'chat'.
And special thanks to Tonguey whose masterful moderating made me feel all safe and snug. kiss

I have a question, though... maybe you can help, Harry?
You know those little drop down ladders? One is for emoticons? How to you get the emoticons into your text? I drop it down, select the one I want... but it doesn't go into my line of chat. rolleyes

Well Heather, hey, how are you, and welcome to the room! Seems presumptious of a forum newbie like myself to be welcoming a mod, but hey! It's a bit manic in there ain't it, but the forum's mad as a box of frogs!!! Surreal!? ;-)
And no i could never work out the emoticons either!!!

Hi Heather,
If your using the Java access to the Chatroom, I'm sorry, I could never get them to work for me either. :taz: As a System Op., I, like all the other Syops use Mirc., mainly for the speed at which pre written scripts/ warnings etc, can be inserted onto the screen.
Smiley's are not included as a part of Mirc and users do not see them when using it, all we get are the type codes. e.g. :lol, or something similar.
Mirc users can use Scoop Script as an addition, which gives the user the ability to be flambuoyant in their composition, with rainbow colours and constructed pictures etc.
This proved to be a problem at one time, and there are rules now governing how many lines of script can be used at once.
The speed at which the chatroom page moves up the screen during busy periods, really precludes the use of fancy type settings unless they are pre-written.
I hope you enjoyed your chatroom visit, and that your eyeballs have stabilised. lol

Do come back again soon, carefull though, it can get more addictive than the Forum.
I hope you read the chatroom rules, heh, heh.

Right if you want to include an emoticon within a section of text,what you have to do is type it in manually,so that if you want to include a kiss what you need to do is to type in hi ******* kiss

.
Type it in as if its all one word,so leave a space at the start and end,but no spaces in the emoticon.
You can only type in the emoticons that are on the droplist and also you must spell them correctly to otherwise you just get a text version.
If you arent sure,i can guide you through it in the probaly easier that practice is far easier than the explanation.

Hello Heather, i'm as new to the forums as you are to the chatrooms, i use the Beta room as i find being a single male you get a better chance of actually chatting to a female lol, it can be scary in there as it isn't moderated but a bit of common sense goes a long way :grin:
I also find it to be very tempremental as it has a mind of its own kicking you out every few minutes, i have reported this a few times but never got any feedback sad

Maybe i'll see you in there one day wave

Hi Mark,
The Beta chatroom isn't moderated at all and as far as I know can't be. You would be kicked for inactivity, The last time I was in there, about 9 months ago, I think it was set for two or three minutes. To avoid being kicked out just hit the enter key occasionally. If you watch the script on your screen when no one has much to say you will see the occasional "Kicked for inactivity! message appear.
It's a good room for newbies to start off in but it is dreadfully slow. You can go private 1 on 1 on there. Really its the simplest form of chatroom I know to use.

Thank's for the input H & yes i know about the inactivity thing, this is totally differant to that as it's usually a mass exodus of all involved but we put up with it as it's like you say sloooooooooooooooow in there lol

It's a small world Mark. I just didn't connect that it was you, after all it's not an uncommon name in any chatroom. Nice to see you are still at it. Multiple exits are usually connected with Servers crashing through an overload. It happens in the other chatrooms occasionally. One minute there are 150 in the room, next minute 5 or 6. Then everyone comes back saying 'what the F*** was that".
