Shit happens
We need to know and we need to see ..
But to celebrate the photography of pain and suffering on a swinging site .....
Seems a bit odd to me confused

Flower, with the greatest of respect, this post want put there to celebrate or glorify pain and suffering, it was put here to stimulate debate and thought...and the last time I looked this forum was a place where anything could be posted for discussion and debate, I hadnt realised all subjects had to be sex related.
My apologies for making that mistake, I will ask for this thread to be removed so that I dont offend anyone elses sensibilites.

Don't you dare!!!
For the reasons you just highlighted, if x factor is deemed worthy, then so is this.
It is no different to the political 'debate' threads. If they can be here then so can this. rolleyes

Took the words right out of my mouth!
Why would the flag being raised or Niagra Falls freezing be classed as sick dunno
Some of them are not sick but great photos from the past
Dave_Notts
Discuss the pictures please, don't waste a bloody good thread
I am speechless by some of thse pictures but I am glad of the reminder of history

No-one is saying everything posted has to be sex related. And yes the photos are breathtaking and thought provoking but it might have been an idea to warn of the content in the accompanying text dunno I personally log on for here for light hearted fun and discussion and switch off from the political discussions etc. Others are entitled of course to their own reasons for being here and what they like to see posted. In terms of this, the last thing I want to be faced with on a Sunday evening is the picture of a 5 year old pregnant child and other abominations . If I had been aware of the content I would not have moved on any further that is all I am saying.
I find it heartbreaking that you would find A child with a very rare genetic anomaly an abomination.

Some, not all, made me feel sick. Let's keep things in context shall we please? smile
Yes lets.
The title of the thread is "iconic photographs"
Now I'm sure the term iconic would be open to interpretation, especially in this dumbed down celebrity worshipping society, but surely it wouldn't take a great deal of intelligence to realise that there is likely to be images of our history, and as has been said, with mankind having a darker side, there is likely to be images that are not of all that is great and good.

They are all iconic photos from the past !!! I already know where to look for photos of napalm victims !!!

We all know where to find video clips of pee wee king, didn't stop you posting one.
Don't they make you ashamed to be a human being?

The aren't particularly all pictures that I would want to see any night of the week, the subject being though, they are photos that changed the world.
Like them or not, pictures portray a multitude of emotions, happenings, suffering, excitement, joy etc. To appreciate the good events, people need to accept the bad events.

I find it appalling that anybody would post a photograph of a little girl who had had her clothes burnt off by napalm as an "iconic photo"

Are you saying it wasn't iconic?
It is one of the most recognised photographs of the 20th Century, one which exposed the horrors of napalm.
That one photograph quite possibly gave people enough incentive to change their views of the Vietnam war, and why the Americans were there.
If that led to enough people protesting, which then helped bring the end of that war, then that pic more than done it's job, and is, IMO enough to be considered iconic.

It is an iconic photo, before I even looked at the site I knew it would be there. The image that was responsible for a groundswell of resentment and desgust from the American people to a war they had become increasingly disillusioned with can be nothing but iconic.

Well i have to say they are very iconic indeed in that most of thos pics are known the world over and have changes opinions across the globe of many people and had them in awe depending on the phot and the subject.
I say keep this thread open. As with most thing "dont like , dont look"
The iconic word was used by the OP to describe the whole collection I imagine! The website itsself does not use such wording.
THey are all pictures that changed the world.

I was going to add that to my previous post
Iconic ? most definatly yes
Truly amazing ? No
But i got the gist of the title as it was intended
Nice to see you well and truely back in to posting Goosey
I found the images upsetting but most of all thought provoking....
If something provokes thought and stimulates the brain to want to make change then it has to be good doesn't it dunno

And the site is open to all of us !!
I clicked on this thread expecting to see stuff that I hadn`t seen ....not a bunch of photo`s that I was already familiar with that are "iconic" of the 2oth century ....."iconic" because they display the shit that happened !!
I`d have named the thread "shit photos of shit stuff that you already know about"
Then we could have made the choice of not looking !!!
Wise words Flower thank you, now don't let the door hit your arse on the way out...

That could be said of any thread on here :dontknow:
i used to word to describe the whole collection, and the truly amazing was my own opinion....I find the whole idea of being there at split second and catching a memorable image for posterity quite amazing.
Before the advent of cameras etc no one was able to know or to understand the past events apart from it being passed down via word of mouth, written langiagae etc...this was open to interpretation, chinese whispers, lost in translation and so on.
now people have access to look and see things as they happened at a precise moment in time for some of the incidents, and its that I find amazing.
God do you ever have a feeling you wish you hadnt started something....so sorry for the mistakes I made in posting.....will stick to froth in future.

And that statement, in my opinion, is far more offensive than any image included in this collection. To belittle the suffering of, for example, the Vietnamese as "shit stuff" is crass and unnecessary.
They are all iconic images. They are images that shocked, delighted and wowed the world in numerous ways. They are, in some cases, photos of some of the "where were you when..." type of moments of the past century or so.
Just goes to show what power there is in images.

Why would I be leaving ?
Are you closing this thread to people that hold a different view ??
Try it .
Nope Flower I was just thinking that as you obviously find the hole thread uninteresting and distasteful, you would have nothing further to constructively contribute and would therefore be leaving the thread to the people who do.

To belittle the death and suffering of these people by posting their photos on an unrelated site ...ie a swinging site .... for no other reason than to celebrate the photography .... I find odd ... Sorry if you find that offensive .

Where has anyone belittled anything dunno
