Another proud parent here too! biggrin
My youngest daughter got 3 B's 4 C's and a D , and I'm so so proud of her. She's always had particular trouble with exams and revision in particular. We've had lots of tears and sleepless nights over the years but her results never mattered much until these. ( Not that it would've been the end of the world now if she'd not done well, but you know what I mean) We listened to lots of advice on revision techniques and strategies, tried all of them at some point and hoped she'd do well. She certainely worked hard enough and now it's all paid off, I'm so pleased for her. Can't stop smiling here and it's not me who's taken them!
Well Done to any other SH members children getting GCSE results today

Just something else i wanted to add.....what annoys me is when certain people start whinging that exams are being dumbed down......give the kids some credit i know mine worked very hrad and so did many others....and it was this determination that got them good results and nothing else!

This really winds me up as well.......every year everyone starts saying that because more people are passing their exams they must be getting easier........more people are climbing Everest these days but no one claims that it's getting smaller......... confused
Well done to everyone who's passed their exams and to the parents teachers and friends who have helped them to succeed. lol

I'm sure we're looking at the upper echelons here but why are the CBI saying that the education system is offering them young people who "grunt" and who can't spell or do simple arithmetic - so much so that they have to send 'em on foundation courses so they can function at a basic level in the work environment? dunno I really :dunno:

Yes I know she is my better half and I will always big her up so to speak but I've just found this and it's an excellent way of putting it biggrin
Congratulations to Da69ve junior and every one else who got their results this week :D
It's a good few years off before I can start posting about my offsprings good results but I know how proud I get when she makes any achievment in life :D

My daughter got 10 GCSE's all at grade C yesterday....suprising since she went to school for her social life.......off to college to do mechanics then into the Army to be let loose with a gun and a wrench..????
Other daughter got 4 A Levels at grade A last week and is off to Warwick Uni to study Law - ooohhh the expense.....
Bugger the upper echelons at the CBI......maybe Swingers just have brighter kids and its the vanilla scene members whos offspring grunt their way through the dole queue for the next 20 years or so........
Just a thought..!! ((why do I have the feeling I'm gonna have upset someone?? oooppsss))
The upper echelons I was referring to were the sons and daughters being praised earlier on this thread not the CBI. Nevertheless the CBI did say it.
All of the swingers whom I've got to know well and who have children have been very good parents and I think there is credibility in your theory.
.
Well done to the parent for all the sleepless nights and worry as well.......

Now I have to think carefully what emoticons I use here if I laugh it may affect my bedroom rights  or I could jump to her defence and say she is brighter than me but some smart arse will come back with "now thats not very hard is it" so I've decided that as she does have more than her fair share of blode moments to risk a bollocking and go with..............

actually I think I read it a couple of years ago in a letter in the Times..........I couldn't have heard it on the radio as I don't think they discuss stuff like that on Key 103....... lol
