I've been left in the office on my own and I'm bored witless. Have the inventive members got any suggestions on what I can do to pass the time?
I'm trying to think of something really witty to write here.... alas... *sigh*
You could try working rolleyes
Do some work dunno
It's good to see there are so many potential managers out there with ready wits and a streak of originality :jagsatwork:

I'll just say I'm too young to be a manager and I'm not particularly witty... mainly sarcastic bordering on caustic!
biggrin

Strange experience though. Couldn't help thinking "Why the F*** am I doing this" and "Why the f***" did I pay"
Still it made my skin soft and radiant.

Hey be careful, a friend that I've met through this site had a bit of a shock when her boss retrieved pages of text that she had typed to MSN, e-mails etc whilst at work. lol
The nasty man had software to record keystrokes that had been made from her computer and he found it all.
Just a thought for some of you surfing at work.

Excellent advice and one i've mentioned to others before that pretty much everything you do on a PC will be visible to the companys IT dept if they wish to check up on you :uhoh:

it's an SSL Proxy, so you get SSL cyphered data to your machine and unless there is a keylogger or monitoring software on the system the network traffic is complete garbage to anyone looking at it.
also isn't such monitoring activity illegal unless notice of it is written into your contract and/or the company informs you it's being done. Unless a suitable court order has been issued ?
there are ways an means of stopping people using msn/websites the company don't want you too and they are a lot more upfront and probably cheaper than monitoring your staffs private activities.

They should issue you with an AUP - acceptable use policy and ensure that you sign it, most firms who have AUP's usually withold net access until you sign one.
The easiest way to assess whether or not you should be on a site at work is whether or not you would let (your) kids look at it at home - if its not that innocent then should you be risking viewing it at work?????

one of my roles at work is the administration and maintenance of the content filtering system.. so I actually have it written into my contract that I can look at porn in work smile
Even if you sign an AUP that doesn't permit the company to directly monitor your connection, they could possibly see where you went but not what you wrote or read, and even then I think they would need approval to do so. It's certainly a big can of worms.
You are quite right - I work in a law firm and they had a real job on writing the AUP to make it enforceable, although sometimes I do wonder whether or not it would stand up if tested confused
Ours is worded so that even if you hit a porn pop up you are personally responsible for it and they log reaction times as to when it was opened and closed. I don't think they have keystroke stuff installed, just hitting an obscene site would be gross misconduct as far as our AUP and contracts are concerned. They even log what we are searching for on in terms of telephone numbers and the route planners we use when on home visits.
Anyone would think that we would abuse the privilege of net connection if these measures weren't in place innocent
