ummmm... depends on the inhibition!
There are some inhibitions I have that I wouldn't dream of ever wanting to overcome... MY hard limits, there are others I am prepared to push, with the right person/people in a situation where I feel I am in control and am able to allow myself to relax enough to let myself go, MY soft limits..
These limits are going to be different for everyone, Mr B and I also play a little with BDSM, I'm (Mrs) very sub and within these roles we have explored some scenes others would find repulsive... but we would never embark on anything new without first discussing it and making time afterwards to discuss how we felt about it and whether we would like to go any further... Using a "safeword", a word unlikely to come up in normal conversation and both agreeing to respect that if its used EVERYTHING stops, no matter what can be a great way to explore your boundaries...
First though, be with someone you trust.

and how do you overcome them

How do you?
I'm assuming that if he could overcome them, he wouldn't be asking how it's done.
I would say, bit by bit. Whether it's sexually, or in any other aspect of life, gradually does it.

I'd assume that, at 45, he might have overcome at least some?

I'm fed up with people thinking I'm confident and don't have many inhibitions just because I'm a gobby cow on the forum or in the chatrooms evil

I'm quiet at socials. I either sit up the corner or hog the dance floor :lol2:
I've overcome some of my inhibitions but I know I still have many that, at this time, I'm not even prepared to try to overcome.
How did I overcome them? I made the concious decision to. I had a real inhibition over being in a vulnerable position without any control ( not really true as a safe word was in place so I was actually in total control) and I made the concious decision to say 'hey, this doesnt hurt, this is under my control, lets see where it goes', and boy oh boy was it fun!
Conversely, I had an inhibition about having total physical control over someone, yet, when in that position, found the fact that the lady in question found such great enjoyment in being in that position that I also found it arousing.
I still have a long way to go though, spit roast was mentioned to me the other day and all I wanted to do was get the apple sauce out!

We all have them they are part of us. The easy way is to much to drink! redface ...but then is that a good idea? No.
Our Inhibition is a deep part of our past life, and our past is part of us.
Social inhibitions are those that we feel we can not cross, just in case others don't like it. Those we can easily break with the right person.
... but those that are part of us in most cases are best left alone. Having said that our inhibitions do change as we grow.

I find posting in this forum helps lol
Speaking for experience.... ;)
Sorry bad joke, but its so true rolleyes (yes i know i've not been here long, but....)
"It ain't what you say , its the way that you say it..lol"
I am pants.
Really, Really pants.
I wanted to get some fence net tights to wear to Notts- we were in a shop right next door to a Kinky undies shop the other day- and I point blank refused to go in. Mr W mocked me, but I just couldn't do it.
Today, in the supermarket, I saw the tingly lube range was on bogof. Now as I'm a nice person, and am soon to go off up-country to spend a few days with my lover :rascal: I wanted to get some to add a little extra to Mr W's (ahem) self-amusement whilst I was gone.
I couldn't do it first time round. My trolley was empty, and there was nowhere to hide it! redface Second time round was like a clip from "Supermarket Sweep."
Then I had to carefully choose the cashier. I found the dullest looking middle aged woman who looked like she'd forgotten what it was for, only to have her scrutinise the fecking stuff as she scanned it, look me up & down & THEN stop speaking to me! rolleyes
I can't even browse through anything more exotic than "industrial" knickers in shops without looking furtive.
Like I said, I am pants.
Industrial ones.
Familiarity, trust and confidence are about the only things that can make someone or help someone get over inhibitions.
I'm terribly inhibited until I've either had a glass or two of wine or something similar or that I've really got to know a person or people redface then I'm fine, my confidence levels raise and my inhibitions go.
Face me with a new scenario and I'm complete melted butter
(melted butter??? rolleyes )
We find shyness and a few inhibitions kinda sexy...
For us it means there not banging away night after night just for the sake of things lol.. and if someones a little hung up on themselves they might not notice so many of our little flaws too... We all have em eh lol.
If we ever met anyone overly confident with no inhibitions we'd probably run lol.

Sadly, with great difficulty. And growing older (and wiser?) doesn't make things any easier either.
Plim redface
Alcohol always does it for me.
Though certain lady friends tell me I have no inhibitions even when sober.

You can get over most 'acceptable' inhibitions if you need or want to. There are some you shouldn't. They are illegal.
