What like herding them into Concentration camps (the Boer War), starving and slaughtering them (1745 Jacobite Rebellion), refusing food to a starving population (Ireland, the potato famine) transporting them across the world to be worked to death (the Luddites, the survivors of Peterloo) or using gas on them (Persia, 1921) like we British have done?

Why is it ok to slag off the americans as a nation and race? We wouldn't let a similar comment slide about another continent and I'm starting to find some of the things said rather uncomfortable.
People in glass houses really shouldn't throw stones.

Gem, I think you're right - there are always going to be bad elements in every race nation, and it is unfair to judge an entire group by one or two idiots.
Just look around the UK - I'm sure other people think we're just as bad as a nation, because the extreme views always take centre-stage, and not the majority.
Maybe you should work for the Foreign Office Gem ?
(Do they have a swingers cultural attache ?)

Absolutely. I think the important thing to remember is that we are all the same species. Biologically the concept of races is dubious anyway - race definitions are imprecise, arbitrary, derived from custom, and races observed vary according to the culture examined, so it is entirely subjective.
Whether we hail by accident of birth from America, Africe, Europe, Asia, or Australasia we can all interbreed which is an important scientific criterion for bunching animal groupings together. And even if we weren't, what would make any of us better anyway? And, when it comes right down to it, the differences people harp on about are entirely cultural (i.e. the concept of a habit) or political (i.e. the result of habitual indoctrination).
And, after that lecture, let's just chill and get on with each other and learn to cut out the dogma that most of us have been exposed to. cool
