Just got back from me travels - tell you about that another time. rolleyes redface lol  wink cool (not necessarily in that order)
I've just got a question about the Introduce Yourself Forum.
It seems there are quite a few people posting in there, followed by quite a good response from established members. Many of the new posters don't seem to follow it up though - I may have got this wrong as I haven't read all the threads. But if that is the case, then are we doing something wrong and frightening them off?
Maybe they've all pulled on their posting boots and are now whoring it all over the other fora - if so I've missed it as I've been away.
Have I got it wrong - or is that particular forum not having the required effect?
Might it be better to draw new posters into the Café or Current Affairs where things are more varied and are likley to catch new posters attention? dunno
.
To be honest tune, I don't know what the answer is - there are heaps more people posting in that forum than ever used to do their own intro posts. Maybe it might be better as a sticky in the Cafe... but would people venture in here?
Be good if more people would go and post replies in the Introductions forum though - maybe then people would come in the rest of the forums.
Mind you, maybe the new folk are all too busy in chat?
Nola x
Really good point. I have noticed that the odd one or two who did introductory posts in there have actually made their way to the cafe and other parts of the forums, but it seems the majority do a post and then run, very quickly (probably the safest option looking at some of the forum inmates)
Ok, thats me decided, from now on, Im going to suggest other parts of the forums, if I think it would help them, rather than just doing a "welcome to the site" kind of response wink

Ah, if that's the case it helps explain things better. That's a good thing. I had visions of a timid group huddling in the wings - rather unsatisfied with how their first foray turned out.
I think the 'sticky-in-theCafé' idea would be a great improvement. Best of most worlds - special place, but accessible to regular users plus the fact that the new posters would see another forum. If it was big and bold - surely the new posters would see it.
.
I think we should get admin to put an automatic redirection thingy in place, so that when anyone posts in the Introduction form and presses submit, it automatically takes them to the cafe lol
The good thing is that there are more new posters in here at the moment, and a number of these are not necesarily new to the site, just new to the forums.
Also, we could automatically stick the redirection thingy on so when you log on you automatically come into the cafe for a brew biggrin
Tune's right by the way.... hot new avatar Mrs NWC! wink

I view it in the same way that I do the butcher's counter at Tesco's - a constant supply of fresh meat all neatly stacked in one place... and it speaks to you too to let you know what it likes too - it's like meals on wheels really
cool
OK, but seriously, I guess one argument is that it gets new members noticed and the other one is that is sets them apart - a sticky in the Cafe as nola suggests might be good... dunno really confused
PS: NWC - I recognise that picnic table :rascal:

i'm new and it is daunting trying to make friends and become known. Not sure what the answer is. Probably the best is to encourage some newbies to the socials and get to meet people that way....what do you think??

I think you find that on any forum to be honest, some people do go as far as to post a hello and then you never hear from them again.
I don't think it's anything to do with the type of responses they've had to their initial hello, more to do with them as a person. Some people just lurk and are happy staying that way though I've always thought if you're interested enough in a particular forum that you keep coming back to it to see what's happening etc, then why not join in, get known (which can seem daunting and undoubtedly may take time) and maybe even meet people in real life?

I found that by going to a social, it was the way that I really got into the site and started to enjoy it for what it really was. Socials and munches are always a good way to get to know people, but they are not everyones cup of tea wink

Very true Dark and like real life one of the best things about this place is the variety of people, who want so many different things from it. Lurking is how I first started on the site. I had been reading the forums for a while and saw a post about something I felt really strongly about, so had to join just to make my point and I still havent found the way out
im sorry i hate the split of the forums.
its slightly better that they have got rid of a couple, but i still dont understand the point of having a current affairs sections, isnt everything posted current?
and the introduce yourself, me being stubborn, i cant be arsed to go into a seperate forum to constantly be saying hi , hi , hi, hi blaghhhhh. so i wont even bother looking in there.
