No, didn't he scream "I AM THE GOD OF WAR" and set to work. Doing a damn good job of it too from what I can see. Don't get me started .....

That was Yaweh, otherwise known as Jehovah. It would appear that the writers of the bible appropiated God's will to whatever ends served their purpose ie. defeating their enemies. Considering that the old testament bible was conceived and written by Jewish scholars in exile in Babylon after being defeated by the Egyptians, this is nothing more than propaganda. This concept of 'God on our side' has been used ever since to justify, legitimize and further political aims especially in the theatre of war. Take George Bush for example, or Bin Laden for that matter. Both believe in God and are motivated by their beliefs and feel justified that their actions are in accordance with the will of God ie. God is on their side.
This is totally at odds with the concept of God as a benevolent loving being, something which mystics, saints and a whole host of other people in various cultures throught the entire world have discovered for themselves.
God or the Goddess is not bound by geography or politics.
For an interesting link on this subject of Yahweh and his mates try
But I divirge........sorry!

Jehova.

RIGHT! Who said that?
LC in the Bible there are frequent references to God-ordained war.
Many present-day pacifists hold Jesus as their example for unvarying peace. But they ignore the full revelation concerning Jesus pictured in the book of Revelation 19, where He is depicted bearing a "sharp sword" and smiting nations, ruling them with "a rod of iron."
Tthe Song of Victory in Exodus 15 hails God as a God of war: "… The Lord is a man of war: the Lord is his name."
God strengthened individuals for war, including Moses, Joshua and many of the Old Testament judges who demonstrated great faith in battle. And God destroyed many armies challenging the Israelites. I Chronicles 14:15 describes God striking down the Philistines.
God even gives counsel to be wise in war. Proverbs 20:18: "Every purpose is established by counsel: and with good advice make war.".
Throughout the book of Judges, God calls the Israelites to go to war against the Midianites and Philistines.
So with so many people worshipping and praying to THAT God, is it any surprise that we have war, is all I'm saying.
That's not the God I believe in, but far too many do.

Neither, the God or Godesess I believe in. Often others for political means have quoted God from the bible as a justification for their wars, but we must take into consideration the bible was written mainly by men from a tribe of disenfranchised people who needed to have their confidence in themsleves bolstered. Hence the old testament and the history of the 'chosen people' of God ie. the Jews.
Christianity gave us the new testament but by default introduced the west to the old testment as a background document. Both books are linked, specifically as references are made in the new testament to characters and events in the old testament. Though Christianity is a divergent cult derived from other Jewish cults, most notably the Essenes, it's original message has been distorted by and reinterpreted into the Roman or catholic version of christ's message that has been promulgated ever since the 4th century AD.
Revelation is a troubling book and is open to interpretation, which makes it very dangerous. It would appear that the writer of Revelation was familiar with the old testament and with the concept of God being quite a wrathful old bugger. It would appear that the writer was inspired by the images from the old testament and I believe that this document is nothing more than a revengeful wishful thinking by the author. A document written when christians were going through a period of persecution and needed a piece of propaganda to justify their beliefs in the return of Christ.
Since the time of Constantine and the introduction of Christianity in the late first millemium to the westen Europe, political leaders have justified their wars on the basis of this literature and the belief in God as a god of war.
As they say...shit happens!
If you want the truth about Christianity anyway, read 'The Da Vinci Code'.
