My company aren't doing anything at all by way of a Christmas bash for the employees
No social, nothing.
We don't get paid overtime even though we frequently work between 10 to 15 hours a day. Working weekends and Bank Holidays is quite normal.
Christmas bonus? What's that?
Does anyone know an employer who's a bigger arsehole than that?
dunno :dunno:

sounds like your in the wrong job
Yeah my boss, I get naff all money, no bonuses, no overtime pay, no holidays, no perks and work my ass off 24/7, I'm nursemaid, counsellor, doctor, cook, cleaner, general dogsbody, driver, personal shopper and delivery worker, the list goes on.
Yep I'm a single mum lol!
From a financial point of view spot on but it's generally interesting and I get all over the place, here and abroad so it's not all about money.
My point with this thread though is not about the job itself but the lack of any kind of reward or acknowledgement for the hard work most of us put into getting the job done.
Working between 60 and 70 hours a week is the norm.

Im interested to kow if your boss usually does something for you all at Christmas? I s this a departure from the norm?
You have to remember this is the time of year when employers can spend money on staff and it be tax deductable, so if htere is profit with in the company it makes sense to do so,. If there arnt any profits well perhaps you should accept the ecconomy with good grace?

Hmmmmmmmm. Food for thought FL
Last year we had a social in a private club, just drinks and snacky bits. The boss bought everyone a drink. Wow!
Well unless something happened at last years do which the boss dosnt want repeating........................................................well i guess he/she isnt naturally mean, maybe a bit skint??
Christmas or no Christmas money only goes so far.
How about aproaching the boss and trying to organise something where you all contribute and the boss pays for just one item , like a buffet or the drinks?
mike was just saying the same
working till 5pm xmas eve
from what i can remember the boss can claim back £70 odd from the taxman per employee 4 xmas entertaining
2`s
evil sad  :(
I can relate to you eagerslut,my company make us work all the bank holidays and we also don't get any bonus or xmas party.I work annualised hours which means that i don't finish till the jobs done,so at this time of year when were busiest, were working god knows how many hours and being made to work some of our days i'd say that my company is about as bad as your boss, tight feckers mad
Cant say but as I work for myself I still plan a Xmas party !!! me Mrs O will still have an Office lol party Thursday,,,,,,,,,lots of nibbles etc
But seriously even when I worked for a big company I would always do my best to ensure if not a xmas party I would wangle at the least a competition to win a turkey and drink for the each six weeks leading up to xmas & tried to ensure everyone would win something,,,,,,,, biggrin
if I did employ people I would ensure if not an xmas party they had a GOOD hamper each,,,,,,, smile Treat People as you would like to be treated (Nice thought)
What goes around comes around (Selfish thought) wink

Mine. They ain't paying me at all. Literally! I've not been paid a penny for November yet. They've offered no explanation, and no hint at when they might actually cough up; they didn't even have the good grace to let me know I wouldn't be paid on time.
Merry Christmas Roger743.
(To be fair, on paper I'm actually very well paid and the job is very easy-going, and they did start to arrange the Christmas party months ago (though I've not heard anything about it for a while now...) Well, I guess this is why I have savings, right?)
Was talking to another trucker the other day. He gets a basic wage then is paid by the mile. He'd been waiting 4 hrs to load and was still waiting when I loaded and left, so he hadn't earned anything for the last 4 hrs (and legally we can't work more than a 15 hour shift).
Guess what? His company charge their client 75 quid an hour because he's kept waiting, but he doesn't see any of it!
It's amazing that here we are in one of the wealthiest countries in the world and a lot of the work force are being treated like slave labour (meself included).
Oh shit! I don't want to go there.

Oh come on, get real ES. When was that ever the case?
Mind you, i've got to say, the firm I work for does look after us. We even get 15 of 80 for demurrage. And as I'm paid by the hour, if some jobsworth good in clerk wants to sit me in a corner like a naughty little boy for being 20 minutes outside my booking time, that's fine - even gives me time to check my emails and the odd PM from some of the lovely people here.
Don't get me wrong ES, I've worked for some real arses in my time and run as bent as anybody else, but I've find a firm now where it's not needed. And . . . . . . . . . . . . .
how many people have you had the chance to "meet" while you've been out getting paid to work??
As for working 60 hours a week - get a full time job ya lazy git. lol wink

How about my (previous) employers - I worked for one company, who got bored of us and decided to sell us to another company, and then rent us back at half the price (so they outsourced us). The new employer has a bad rep within our old employer's staff. And now, about a month after the transfer, we all understand exactly why.
Over Christmas, our shift pattern continues "as normal". So the fact we are scheduled on for Christmas Eve, Day, Boxing Day, New Years Eve and New Years Day means nothing. *sigh*
*expects sickness rate to go through the roof*
