Do you consider yourselves to lead an alternative lifestyle? I don't consider it to be so for myself or J. I might think of the general idea of swinging itself being alternative to monogamy, or the general perception of the place of sex in our lives, but every other aspect of our life is rather conventional I think.
Alternative to me would be like becoming a gypsy/pikey/traveller or taking up a religious way of life such as becoming a monk. Living in a hippy commune becoming very wealthy and becoming part of the jetset/playboy fraternity (I'd like that one best i think) maybe retraining as an archeologist and bogging off to Egypt on a dig for ten years.
I'm afraid i don't consider Swinging to be anymore than a welcome diversion in a ordinarily somewhat mundane existence. What do others feel
We regard it as a pastime or hobby. We spend a lot of time doing it but it certainly isn't a lifestyle for us. Polyamoury might be a lifestyle but swinging isn't, we return to our normal life after we've played.
not really. there's usually too much leading a double life for it to be your only life.
Also you could apply the term lifestyle to anyone wanting to enhance or design their life to be something more than they are. I think its used in the same way as people who take an object and designate/qialify it as art.
Or simply 'big up' their life. I am this because I do that, and I expect/want/need people to acknowledge it.
If swinging is a lifestyle - then surely the non-swinging life, monogamy/monoamory etc is also a lifestyle choice?
i dont understand the question..surely everything you do no matter how little a part it plays in your life still becomes part of your lifestyle just by its very being there
I am a swinger and I am a lesbian and I am all sorts of other things. Because I am those things them they are part of my lifestyle.
There's a lot more going on in our lives than swinging, so we look on it as a diversion to every day life, a fun recreation if you like more than a lifestyle
