Cannot remember him in the elite class of GP'S? Unlike Barry...twice WORLD champion. lol

So then based on that logic, Sheene can't hold a candle to Mick Doohan?
Of course he can...Sheene was English/British. There lies the difference. Patriotic to the last.
Patriotism does not recognise statistics, you said Foggy was inferior because he didn't have two world championships, how many did Doohan have?
Six but......he had the best bike by far and not his fault but.... he killed off GP's for best part of eight years, as he was soooooooooo boring.
Did these bikes sport Fresco exhausts by chance?

Steve you need to carry on taking the pills your Doctor prescribed. lol
Carl Foggerty.... A God? Then my arse is a football.

Serving burgers to Elvis in a Ghanian McDonalds franchise?
Is there a God? thought so, but he took him with when he went...
only one true god !!
In the beginning there was man. Man said 'Shit happens, why?'
'It is nothing to do with me.' man replied, and invented god, saying 'He did it!'
Until someone proves to me, absolutley and positively, that there is a God, in whatever shape or form, I won't get married in church.
biggrin
You have until Nov 2009. lol

So if you really know about bikes, name me one rider who has gone from crappy superbikes to the elite class GP's and done anything?
There is nobody. The superbike world champions who have gone to GP's are..... Hodgson, Edwards, Toseland and Bayliss.
None of them have even won a race, in fact they have all ended up eating Rossi's tyre marks.
My point is that whilst Foggy may have been a world champion, it was in a second rate series. Thats a fact.... wink
The riders in GP's are better that is also a fact. But when GP riders go to Superbikes because they are no longer cutting the mustard in Gp's, they seem to do much better in Superbikes...check the stats my friend. :wave2:
But it only counts when they are English apparently.....

Eh?
Foggerty done shite in GP's cos he was.
Plus what an arsehole the guy was, he even had the nerve to say he was better than Sheene. Might be in his deluded eyes, but not in a poll in Motorcycle news he was not. In fact he came 4th.
Due to cutbacks, only works part time on a friday afternoon 2 till 5. lol
gentlemen gentlemen have you no respect there is only one god and that is Mike Hailwood

Ahhhhh
Now we see the true reason for your ramblings.....
You simply dont like him rolleyes
Have met him more than once and found him to be a very nice guy so that kinda makes him not an arsehole doesnt it....
Name me one MotoGP rider who held the outright lap record on the IoM for a week let alone the years Foggy did ;-)

Your right......I do not like him. He came across as an arogant so and so!
So because you met him and thought he was a nice guy, then he is? Peter Sutcliffe was said to be a nice guy by some too.
In answer to your other question.... Mike Hailwood 4 time World GP champion held the lap record at the Isle of Man, and also that other great racer, Agostini...7 time World GP champion AND the lap record holder at the Isle of Man.
There well could be others but cannot think of any.
Two guys...genuine nice guys who did not have to have a personality trasnsplant. They like many others have made their name racing at the HIGHEST level, not a second rate series, BUT the World GP series.
Foggy when racing in Superbikes had THE best bike there, hence why he won so many times. As for the Isle of Man, whilst I love the racing and the balls those guys have, racing on a street circuit and holding a lap record does not constitute being a legend or a great racer.
The lap record holder John Mcguiness, has done nothing in any other class, nor did my other hero Dave Jeffries. Good racers but never got to race at the pinical of racing.
Yes Foggy was a good racer and yes he held the lap record at the Isle but....to be a great legend you have to win at the TOP level and he never did.....Plus he still an arsehole. lol wink
As an after thought, I think Mick Grant also achieved that record....not too sure though.

You made the point that Sheene was twice world champion, so if those statistics are the benchmark, then Doohan is head and shoulders above Sheene?
You then countered with English and patriotism, hence the comment at the top of this post.
Oh, and for what it is worth, I'd rather watch Sheene than Doohan any day, in the same was I preferred watching Kevin Schwantz over Wayne Rainey.
D'ya know guys, I am sort of feeling all educated now biggrin. What sort of cars did they race again confused

Not in my book and I will tell you why.
Sheene came from a family of racers. His Father was a racer and a good one too. Sheene started off watching his Father at meetings up and down the country, and he grew to love it. He helped fix the bikes, he understood them. He was a raw talent that started off in the back of his Fathers dodgy old van. From that and bloody hard work he went on to become the legend that he is.
Now take Doohan. Not a great racer in Australia but caught the eye of a Honda guy who was watching him race. He was nurtured by the biggest Motorcycle company at that time, with all that entails. I heard that he even had his arse wiped by someone at Honda? dunno
He had backing like you would not believe and at the time Honda were the name in racing. They had the best bikes and the best mechanics and money was no object. Success can be brought.
In Sheenes case in the Belgian 1975 GP I think it was, he was in the pits tinkering with the bike himself. He did not have a fleet of mechanics like Doohan did. Doohan just rode the bike, Sheene did so much more than that.
Yes it is true Sheene won two world titles with Suzuki as a factory rider but....nothing of the level that Honda was putting in.
Also remember that Sheene and Kenny Roberts changed the face of Motorcycle racing. They forced the organisers to change the safety of the circuits, and the money the riders got. Way before Doohan came along. Without Sheene and his fuckoffish attitude, riders would have continued to die. He fought for the cause, which helped to mould what racing has become today.
So yes whilst Doohan may on paper have won more titles, Sheene did it the hard way, with balls and determination. Not an army of yes men like some racers had. Sheene is remembered for so many more things than two titles. What is Doohan remembered for, other than his titles? Or even Foggy come to that.
Sheene in my opinion is the greatest racer ever, for so many reasons. You should watch his dvd, and like so many come to realise the greatness of the guy. wink
As Sheene once said " don't wait for your ship to come in, swim out and meet the fucking thing ". That will always sum him up for me.
