I've just bought a new ink cartridge for my HP officejet v45 and got the correct one - HP15. The printer won't take it and keeps on saying 'incorrect ink cartridge' error message. I've noticed that the cartridge is a 'new' lightweight version - less toner for kess price - would that really make it incompatible?
I'll need to print out all my marking sheets in blue or red now! mad :x
Is it one of the 'tagged' cartridges like the Epson's ?

Don't know - but it's a genuine HP one.

The only thing I can think is that the printer doesn't recognise amount of ink in the new version and thinks that it's still empty...can you get hold of one of the old type ones ? Or get your other cartridge refilled ?
I wouldn't bother with branded cartridges unless you do a lot of high-quality photo printing, just get them dirt-cheap from Choices Stationery or
is it a refilled cartridge as i had quite a few probs with them even tho HP were the ones to refill it as tey sometimes get it wrong, best thing to do is either hit it with a hammer or take it back to where you got it for a replacement
have you removed the little plastic tag thingy off the cartridge?

Jags,
I've had a look on the web. It seems it is a common occurance steeming from badly manufactured cartridges...
This is what a journalist had to say about them...
It seems that if you own an OfficeJet V45 printer and it refuses to recognise it’s ink cartridge with the error message ‘Incorrect Cartridge’, don’t despair, go and buy another and it should work. If that one doesn’t work, don’t give up. Buy another one still and with luck, that will work fine. I should add, you won’t find this important information on the Hewlett Packard Web site or in the Printer manual.

Thanks. I've done what JonJon suggested by PM and cleaned the cartridge heads and the contact heads and now emailed HP. It seems that we just have to keep on buying the cartridges then? Hope I get a refund from PC World!!

*checks the weather forecast for hell to see if they're in for a cold snap*
I got a refund the other day from them - bought a digital camera (as a present) and they sold me a Fujui xD card for it - when I got the camera home and unpacked it (to charge up the battery) I saw that the instructions said to only use Olympus xD cards for the panoramic function to work. They HAD to pay up then!!
Mmmmm - can't find the receipt for the cartridge though... would me bank statement be enough???
Hmmm... Did you try the memory card in the camera? It should have worked as I can see no logical reason why Olympus xD cards should be any different from any other brand.
But anyway, tis a moot point. On to your second question...
I see no reason why a bank statement shouldn't suffice. You require proof of purchase, whether that comes in the form of a receipt or a bank statement is irrelevant as long as you can prove you purchased it from that shop.

if you paid on a card they'll be able to give you a copy of the receipt instore. Providing you don't get a jobsworthy!

There's a big card in the box which says:
ATTENTION
Only use Olympus xD-Picture Cards with this digital camera. Only Olympus xD Picture Cards have built in software to enable the Panoramic function
Anyway, I got a 512MB from Amazon at a better price. There are reviews about the xD thing on Amazon saying that other cards don't download and then the cards need reformatted - I wasn't going to chance it and waste more money on a dead card.
The receipt for the cartridge got chucked out with the rubbish yesterday  but the debit is showing on my bank statement from the internet. Doesn't say what for but I will have a go.
Still no joy on the blessed thing working  but thanks for your help folks. At least I know it's not me being stupid biggrin :D

I have an Olympus mju400 and use a fujifilm 128Mb XD card with no problems at all......... all functions of the camera work - mind you, I did format the card in the camera before using it

'Proof of purchase' can be a cheque stub, bank statement, or even a friend who can witness your purchase - (from a retail manager with 20 years experience ;) ) check with your Citizens Advice Bureau
Thanks for the info - I will try taking the ruddy thing back today.
As for the xD card I just took the easy way out. The camera (a really cute Muju Mini) is for my mother who really only wants to point and shoot and would just get confused with having to format a card (though i suppose I could have done it myself redface ). Anyway a 512MB will mean she never needs to change the card.
Cheers you lot -
