Having a conversation with a colleague the other day, as we were being served the staff christmas dinner, she made me eat a sprout evil and informed me that it wouldnt be a christmas dinner if it didnt have sprouts lol
So, Whats the one thing you HAVE to have at Christmas??
The one thing that you think...well it wouldnt be christmas without it, or that you dont have at any other time, bit christmas just wouldnt be right if you didnt have it?
Mine would be prawn cocktail with brown bread triangles......I never have brown bread at any other time  but I HAVE to have it with my christmas prawn cocktail, or it doesnt feel right....oh and snow...it doesnt feel 'quite' right until it snows just like on those christmas cards biggrin
For me (mr srne) its got to be birds eye packeted brandy sauce and the driving home for christmas song by chris rea.
For miss srne its jellt tots and the coca cola holidays are coming add!!
fisticuffs!
It's not officially Christmas in my house until I start playing Jim Reeves Xmas album. It's an album that my Nan used to play when I was an ittle bitty girly and I still play it now.
:karaoke: silver bells....... :karaoke:
its not xmas without choccie and lots of it lol

Sherry- to get utterly tipsy on whilst I'm cooking dinner :drink: we're actually taking some out to France with us :giggle:
We're -hopefully- going to the snow, so that's sorted
Not gonna even think about the people
With you all on the "people missing from christmas" thing
Good stuff ....
It's not Christmas without
turkish delight - the proper stuff, rose and lemon in powdery stuff that gets all over
Matchmakers. The only time I ever eat mint chocolate.
Mulled wine at my mum's.
Ticking all the "must watch" tv in the Radio Times. (and then not watching any of it!)
One brussel sprout. Every Christmas without fail I have had to eat one brussel sprout 'cos my mum says it's not Christmas without them.
We also always have prawn cocktail for starters - on my insistence even though I never eat prawns the rest of the year.
Panicking that I haven't got the OnlyChild enough. confused
I'm a bit of a "bar hum bugger" to tell the truth.
The whole commercial side rather than peoples 'doing their thing', decorations etc, and people spending millions and buying crap with no thought etc
Always enjoyed as a kid but guess as I'm not 1 now lol and spent time at uni, London and now NW I can only think it is down to it not really starting until I go back to my mums a few days before but have to say Chritmas Eve mass is always the turning point though. Only time I go to Church and as its a local thing I really enjoy it and it then also reminds me what it is truely about which is happiness, being with those you care about and having a good time, shared together.
My Dad always does a prawn cocktail 80's style for boxing day dinner which gets me everytime as well.
Chris x
Happy Chritmas btw
Midnight Mass with the girls ....... Mum, Sister-in-law, neice and Grandma (when she was alive)
While the boys stay home and peel the vegetables for Christmas Dinner!
Home for a hot-toddy and bed, until the children wake you up at silly O'clock! :bounce:

Oh and this stuff:

Snowballs- double yum!
Home-baked bacon joint. Slathered in honey and mustard and then wrapped up until it goes cold. When you unwrap it, it's coated with a shiny layer of sweet mustardy jelly.
And sitting the table for the meal - the one and only time we use the table for eating at. Usually it's covered in clean clothes waiting to be taken back upstairs.
btw son is probably working Xmas, Boxing and New Years days cos he cleans at the local pub. :evil2: :evil2: :evil2: :evil2:

And we now have a new tradition brought on by having a daughter.....we first tracked Santa with Norad about 6 six years ago ... My daughter now sets all the times throughout the day depending on where santa is...
We are having a Christmas eve party and she has decreed that if anybody is still in our house when Santa gets to France, we`re going to kick them out !! lol

ooooohhhh we do that too, i LOVE that website and the kids are dead excited seeing 'santa' getting nearer to our house biggrin

OMG! Alspals!... a rare visit from the funniest avatar in 2007!... wave (from she who eyes you up on your rare webcam! wink )x
I used to hate Christmas but learnt a great lesson when i saw my children cry on the 21st of December 2005 I cried too. People are the most important things in the world. The season of goodwill I understand these days, and regardless of the commercialsm that happens on all occasions from xmas to and weddings, funerals etc Christmas above all should be about people. I take joy in the people i know and thank nature for being priviledged enough to be able to do that. I miss loved ones who have passed away. Though its a time I use for reflecting in the knowing of them not of the passing.
Otherwise that first cup of coffee with the kids begging to break into a frenzied attack on their Christmmas stockings (which btw get smaller in size but a lot more £ sad ) I really do like to make them wait
Christmas to me........
for me to drink a bottle of vodka while cooking the dinner surrounded by my family mike, my daughter, son in law and my two handsome grandsons ( almost 3 and 8 weeks) this is going to be the best yet ............until next year that is
