I’ve never believed that men prefer skinny women.
Most guys have a type they're 'programmed' to go for...
Some men like slim women, others prefer the more voluptuous build.
There really is no right ‘size’.
Personally I would be one boring old git if I went for any particular shape!
I have known some fantastic girls from size 10 to 24 & the most attractive qualities in anyone – man or woman – is self-confidence & self-image!
Back to JKR's comments which were aimed at the 'industry' but is it right to blast women who actually wants to be 'stick' thin?
Each to their own....size 8 to 28.......Personally what makes a woman attractive has more to do with whats in her head than whats in her frock. Being sexy and attractive is about an attitude of mind. Large, small or somewhere in between.

Do you really think they "want" to be stick thin or is it they have an eating disorder or well on the way to developing one because of media pressure?
There was a program on last night focusing on a few celebrities such as Posh Spice and a medical expert was calculating the life expectancy for them. None of them will see their 60th birthdays if they continue to mal-nourish themselves.

I would say they have as much right to obtain the "LOOK" they want whether it be stick-like or on the larger size and yes there may well be a health issue but surely that applies at both ends of the size spectrum

As you can see, I am a stick-like person
but I honestly do think that a lot of the problems with size is with the way women (and men) are portrayed by the press, magazines, TV etc. Its wrong to be over a certain size if your in the public eye.
However, I have noticed on here that when someone comes on asking for women/men/couples of a certain size i.e. less than a size 14 for example, that sometimes they are totally blasted for it, but we all have our own preferences, and it would be a very boring place if we all liked the same thing.
I have the motto that if someone does not like me for the size I am, then I move on, I dont have a problem with it, Im me, Im an individual and I cant expect everyone to like me. I know I dont like everyone, but then again, I am a tart and I like nearly everyone wink
I'm a size 12, am in my mid 40s and have lumps and bumps mainly in the right places ( though some shouldn't be there at all rolleyes ) To me it's more about personality than looks but I don't find stick thin women at all attractive. It's unfortunate that the media ( US film studios being the worst culprits ) place such pressure on women ( and men to a point ) to be a certain size, though I'm sure some women have the misguided notion that the skinnier they are the better ( Mrs Beckham take note )
That said, it's all down to how you feel comfortable in yourself. I have a couple of very happy stick insect friends and a few equally contented size 20+ friends, each of them comfortable in their own skin.
you know i'm really bemused by the perceived pressure on women to be stick thin, because more often than not it's not men who are imposing this idea of the perfect shape? it's not the "Male gaze" that women are conforming to . . . it's some idealised view of womanhood coming from other women, by and large!
it may be men who take precedence in the design world, but in the main, the fashion magazines that promote this look are run by women, and the media pressure comes from other women, some of whom can in no way achieve the look they are pushing down the worlds throat?
it leaves me a bit flummoxed to be honest? dunno
neil - admirer of shapely curves . . . . ;)
TBH i don't think her rant will make any difference. there's now a generation who's only ambition is to be the same as evertone else, have the same clothes, gadgets, hair, this, that and the other. as long as it's the latest thing & can be bought they want it (but many don't want to work to get it though dunno ). I find the whole idea of 'Trendy' sad and pathetic
A quick walk down any town centre will demonstrate a total lack of imagination as you're swamped by a wave of leisuresuited, cheap gold hoop earringed chavettes who think it's oh so cool to 'be famous' (talent is optional). there roll models are fake plastic clothes horses who's image is photoshopped to death before release, so giving them a near unacheivable image to worship.
One of the main attractions of this site is the 'normal women'. you might not be super models, with perfect skin & 0%fat, you might have a few stretch marks and a bit of cellulite but i'd always take a natural woman over some plastic bimbo who's probably spending most of her time stressing over every aspect of her appearence while loosing sight of what a women actually looks like.
I've met Claudia Schiffer and and found her a bit obnoxious, you think Posh Spice is sexy? you should see her from 2 ft away (and it's even worse through a zoom lens) :eeek: i don't know if i find the pursuit of these women depressing or amusing, i just know i'm not attracted to quite a few of them.
Just give me the sexy, confident, normal woman and i'm a happy Meaty worship :smitten:

I must agree I do feel it's the femail gaze on other women that fuels this sad state of affairs

Just the same way we all have our own spectrum of views on this topic.

But why do the media focus on only women?
How many guys out there who dont conform to the 'media image' to look a certain way?

I didnt see it but the fact Posh was featured is exactly my point. She is not a model... just because she 'looks' mal-nourished why judge her or anyone else for making that choice?

How true... Why does she think anyone will take any notice? Is she chasing column inches?
my own view is each to their own speaking personally its the persona;ity that counts etc i doo like many diffferant types tho but i have always been greedy type lol
Personally I usually end up with average sized women around 5ft-5ft3 ( i'm 6ft2............ ) but i've been out with thin ( but not stick insectoid ) and voluptous women and for me its got to be personallity over looks everyday. I could never be the "stereotype" man lol i'm 6ft2 50" chest built like a brick sh1thouse and just now i'm about 20st ( mainly due to having a knackered ankle which i'm hoping to have an operation on soon so back to walking my dog !!! ). My average weight before my back and ankle problems was around 14-16st.
As for why some women starve themselves to be thin well I suppose the magazines have a lot to answer for after all if they used normal people for their publications instead of insectoids then young impressionable women wouldn't feel then need to be starving themselves.
Davie, I just love women regardless of size kiss
If you like women you like them in all shapes sizes and ages. My pet hate is those vile women columnists who hang famous women out to dry if they don't conform to what they think is essential that week. Some women just hate other women. The sexiest thing about a woman is her mind. Not that I don't like admiring their pussies too

Grab-A-Granny night at the bingo again is it lads? :giggle: bolt
both me and hubby seem to go for the same kinda girls, they are usually between size 10+16 , and not usually over 40, now we arnt saying we stick to this, we find that at first we go for looks as we think an attracton has to be there but if the personalitys not there and we dont connect then things dont go any further, like someone said earlier everyone is different and it wouldnt do if everyone was the same
xx

Have you ever noticed big blokes with skinny women and skinny blokes with big women? I've seen it too often for it to to be a coincidence.
Opposites attract, eh? wink

Dude, you rawk!
It is now so sad to see that individualism is seen as something 'bad'. Even the so-called Goth culture has gone the same way - all dressed the same, thinking the same and being the same. Individual opinions are not allowed!
At University recently I had a huge argument in the Union with some of the younger students who were bleating on about The Beatles. According to them, that was the height of rebellious behaviour. They all parrotted this idea, yet not one of them had anything to back up what they said. What it boiled down to was that they had all heard someone say that this was the most rebellious act in history and, rather than think for themselves, they all repeated it.
And it's the same with the idea of how they should look - all have to look 100% the same, individuality being akin to a major sin.

Like them or hate "those vile women columnists" they are paid to do a job & that is to sell whatever publication they contribute too... which in turn needs to reflect & increase the readership base which in turn consist mainly of...? dunno
