So bored was I, and so concerned for your sanity I went a Googling and found that it's almost certainly to do with foreign languages
` is called a 'grave accent'.
¬ is called 'not'.
Haven't found ¦ yet... but I'm sure it must mean something.

 Is mine special? it does this ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦ as well

woohoo much appreciated people worship :worship: but please tell me heather when you say" ¬ is called not" is that in the same way as @ is called at ? banghead :banghead: :banghead:
` is both a grave accent and an opening quote. ' should be usable as an accute accent or a closing quote, but too many fonts get it wrong.
¬ is a logical "not" symbol, which was used in some older programming languages. It isn't currently in ASCII, although it used to be.
¦ is a "broken bar". Or it might appear as an unbroken bar. It seems to have a bit of a messy history. It's been in and out of ASCII, appearing both as ¦ and | (broken and unbroken bars). The original intention was a mathematical symbol (meaning "or").
Visit if you want to get totally confused. If that's not enough for you, try for the full horror of international computing (collation makes my brain melt).
tsk - I thought it was for drawing corn fields
¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦
¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦
¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦
All three symbols are still used in older programming languages. I think I've used a couple in PASCAL and the broken bar and unbroken bar can be deliminators used in file transfers to text files. ie. database to text format. Thangs like that. I'm not o sure they are mainly used now-a-days though. Languages are in a higher state of english so MATH symbols are only used when they are needed while logical symbols can be typed (SQL- ORACLE databases).
Some of you may even notice you have two different alt keys. The one on the right is used for older graphics programs to be able to change settings easily and quickly. I think these keyboards are the ones without the little windows logo key.
Lets just say, use them only if you need to. Thanks you have really brought me back to my college days learning the beatiful art of coding.
Another keyboard question here,i didnt want to start a new thread so i though patch it on here, does anybody know how you do the symbols for a patent, trademark and copyright using a standard keyboard????
Hold Alt and enter 169 on the numeric keypad for ®. It's 184 for ©.
There's also a tool called "Character Map" (It's hiding under Programs->Accessories->System Tools on my machine. That way you don't have to remember the numbers.
*is now going to demonstrate how blonde she is*
I had to use that key the other day in Excel.
Buggered if I can remember what it was for...
