There was a time once when an evening in ....in front of the " telly " was fun biggrin :D
Now its drab all doom and gloom and rubbish american repeats all the time and repeat films seen time after time after time
With the odd exception such as David Attenboroughs latest masterpiece of television and 4 years in the making there is virtually nothing else worth watching . mad :x :x :x
My life does not revolve around the " telly " but after a long day I would like to curl up on the sofa and a few beers in my hand and just relax wink
It would be nice to switch on and watch something that entertains is interesting and full filling rather than the garb that we see day in day out.
is it not much to ask for our bargain licence and oh so cheap at I would gladly pay for the quality programes ...................NOT
and as for daytime tv ..................end of ??

I think TV is better today than it has ever been - Our expectations are just a lot greater and viewing habits different nowadays.
I hardly watch tv these days - mainly nature or cookery programmes and that's about it. Hardly warrants the extortion tactics used by the Govt ( sorry, BBC ) by way of tv licence. I guess if you're an avid soap/reality show fan then you're quids in!
It's about time they scrapped the licence fee and started showing ads on BBC mad
I Remember when we only had 5 channels of shite now we have hundreds! lol

Yeh......Me too :lol2:
I have Sky+ as well and I rarely watch TV....
I used to when my pc was downstairs as I would watch TV and surf at the same time....
Now pc is upstairs I hardly ever use the living room...
I keep thinking of ditching Sky but everytime I do they start a new series that I would like to watch :lol2:

when you go to the USA they have literally hundreds and most are pay channels with boxes ?????
and our govt in its quest to be little america will probably follow up this garbage idea
so what we watch now will possibly get worse
but the licence will still have to go up
possibly to pay for new bentlys for the news readers and dale winton of course
swiftly getting out my old bush post war radio ... to listen to the archers :P :P

Bloody hell.....I remember when there were only 2  ........and it took half an hour for the TV to "warm up"
Does that make me feel old?
Another one that doesn't really watch much telly now, luckily i have a digital recorder so i can record stuff to watch when i want.
As for the general state of tv, well there is less money in the pot and more area to spread it round.
In the case of the BBC, they spend a huge amount on their online presence and the investment it took to make iplayer is  . The online side is now so huge theres suggestions that it needs to be capped in size and budget quite severly. Then there is the whole host of minority channels from things like R6 & R7 to tv channels such as Alba, the gaelic channel, the viewer/listeners per £ spent is sometimes hard to justify, but its part of the BBC remit.
Then there is the amount that is paid to air big events. Wimblebon, FA cup, F1 etc. again this is part of the Beebs remit to provide public access to an amount of such events, but they're still in competition with Sky and the other terrestrials, so its another big wedge of money.
Now, ITV! rolleyes i used to work for them and have watched them spiral into the worst of the 5 terrestrials with a stupid, short sighted view of 'we're not getting enough advertising money, so lets cut the production budgets' so now they have a whole channel of total crap that hardly gets watched...so they get less advertising revenue and less production budget and round it does again
I could go on for hours about this as its been an industry i've been part of for many years and its hard to see it disintegrating slowly, i saw that happen with the previous industy i worked in. theres no easy fix, no magic wand, its sat in the middle of a world that is slowly heading towards a meltdown where you either have money or you don't and everyone will try and take a slice of what you do have....so don't expect telly to get any better
I just watch Dave rolleyes

as soon as the american bashing started, you know i'd be here...smile if we are going to bring american tv into the discussion then at least get a few things straight
so tav.....ahem...hello.... sky... virgin media... ntl... telewest... do they not all provide "pay tv" services...in fact, if you want to stretch it then all the over ARE pay tv services....
and our govt in its quest to be little america will probably follow up this garbage idea
Actually... this time it is the UK leading in the field of the digital revoulution... for example.. sky sports and sky movies
so what we watch now will possibly get worse

that may be so... but i have loads move choice... and not all of it is worse.. it is a lot more diverse and you'll find something for everyone..
but the licence will still have to go up

but thats a different arguement to the one you were orginally making.... but i'll bite... in what way is the BBC not fulfilling its public service remit.... remember the license fee doesn't just go on TV, it goes to radio as well
possibly to pay for new bentlys for the news readers and dale winton of course
swiftly getting out my old bush post war radio ... to listen to the archers :P :P

the archers... would that not be on BBC radio 4... which your license fee pays for... so you have found it covers something you like... hmmmmm wink

FFFF Five....That must be great...I think...you must have a biggggg house...which also must be great....I like the cinema myself...never get ads interrupting you..and one of the best places for that truly social feeling of strangers sharing emotions, laughing together, being totally depressed together, being moved as one...like passengers on a funfair ride!! god bless the cinema :smile2:
we dont watch much telivision but what we do watch is usually recorded and watched later without having to watch adverts cus gary hates them lol
we like thrillers and crime stuff mostly and films
i love sport too, had a great summer watching tennis and cricket for the first time in ages (normally id be at work but i was on long term sick leave then smile)
i love football and F1 too
hate most other programes tho
:boo:

LMFO oh lp, you never fail to make me lol, done that sooo many times :lol2:
As for TV?? difficult one, I truly and honestly do not believe that we get VFM for our licence fee dunno but hey that's just my opinion.
I pay it because i soooooooooooooooooooooo hate adverts interrupting the flow of what i'm watching mad :x :x :x
I also love radio4 and radio7 so go figure but to be honest, for £140 pa from almost every household in the country ???? however x million that is, I expect at least one BBC produced Block Buster New Movie per week, and nothing less.
But then having been a public service employee working for peanuts and seing my bosses driving around in Rollers it doesn’t take much to work out where most of our money goes.
Shutting up now bolt
P
Kind of cute huh?

Can I advocate one of the (imho) best things on telly at the mo - and if you've got Sky there are a few series running at the same time - House.
Once you get past the fact that the main character, the troubled, horrible but brilliant american Dr Gregory House, is played by the foppish Prince Regent from Blackadder, it's compulsive viewing.

Hugh Lawrie is brilliant in that show but I got bored with it after the first couple of series.
Can't wait for Grey's Anatomy to come back though
TV was always 95% junk and nothing has changed as far as I can tell. What has annoyed me of late is the proliferation of soaps at peak times.
I dont have a telly
'Allo 'Allo is still on the tele... the horror

Just about the only thing I ever bother to watch. And I think thats because I have a bit of a crush. redface
yeah, I like House... I think it's down to his habit.
