There are alot of well meaning people in the church, but organised religion as a rule, is just a business. Look at the Vatican.
Charities are no better. Find me one big-name charity that isn't headed by some guy in London with a huge office building, lots of staff and a fancy car. It's a means for rich people and corportations to downsize their tax bills, while trying to appear noble.
In other words, don't look to religion and do-gooders to find morality. Look within yourself.

I see your point - but think the church has been around a lot longer than charity and tax.
Nope Burnie is right the church is all about money and control of the people...religion has been around longer than charity and tax but not the church as such, that is an organised institution and, as has been said already, is largely there to control the masses (ie us!!)
...and many charities are run through the churches, and donations from practitioners.
An obligation to pay for our sins...and here we are back to morality.

It's all the same political game - whether it's politics, business or religion. It's all about getting power over people...

Wise words!
Morals where the invention of controlling powers that wanted thier liltte society to stay in place. These minor local laws then melded into nation wide laws and were based on the local religion.
Now that we are independant thinkers we can make our own choices. I live my life by making sure that my actions dont hurt others. Its easy to do and I would never intensionally offend anyone in any way.
I think that is the core of todays morals thinking of others
Thats definatley a bit deep for me....I shal have to go and lie down....oooo
OK, if we're getting all intellectual here, maybe we should distinguish between morals and rules.
Morals are things like "An' it harm none, Do what ye will"
and Rules are things like "Don't eat fish on a friday".
I think organised religions often impose rules on us by trying to pretend they are actually morals.

Personally I believe that we can be taught the difference between right and wrong, but how we choose to act is governed by your individual conscience.
I'm going to refrain from posting my views on the religious influence on morality for fear of offending somebody :gagged:

Perhaps do not offend is a good starting point for any moral code. along with do not harm. The do not offend bit comes up against the wall when others do not respect it. and preach to you condemming your code.
