I`m looking for information on a good reliable lap top that has internet conections, it will need to be a robust model due to it being used for work as well as play.
Also any information on the ones to keep away from.
Thank You
Bushy
There are so many different features that you might want - e.g. portability - if you're taking it abroad, price etc - that it's impossible to answer without a full spec and budget limit etc.
Lots of people hepled me in a thread when I bought this but I had quite particular requirements which the web comparison sites sorted for me.
By definition, a laptop doesn't by right have an internet connection. You either have to get one with a network card or modem card and connect this by cable to your internet connection point, or have a wireless router and have an onboard wireless network card.
I bought my kids a Toshiba laptop with a wireless connection, and a Buffalo wireless router which connects to the cable broadband into the house. In short, you can sit anywhere ( biggrin ) with the laptop and be connected into the internet.
Hope that helps ( )
Hi bushy,
It all depends on what you're planning on using it for, and how long you plan on keeping it. If you're after good laptop at a low price check this link :

Granted, they are clearance stock.. but hell, for the price you pay will you give a shit in a few months time when they become outdated anyway ?!
For swingers maybe we should do the armour plated, ruggadised ones. Then they will handle dogging in the rain, being dropped, beer spills, etc wink
Seriously though laptops are a personal thing, look for good support as if they break it is not somthing your mate is likely to be able to pull apart as easily as a desktop PC. Other than that it depends on what you will use it for cool

I have but that dosen`t tell me the best, if i was advertising my product it would be the best in the world so i would like to know what this forum members (who between use must have just about every lap top on the market) think and especially the ones to keep away from.
Rollo Tomassi : Cheers
westerross : portability is a must and I`m looking in the £1, up to £1, range

I buy those laptops from the same people that they do, so I can get them cheaper, same terms :-)
I haven't checked their prices so I'm not imediately sure how much cheaper, might check later)
sony is a reliable brand
but i think you will get a very decent bit of kit for that money
Avoid own brand kit UNLESS you pay substantially less
unless your planning on some heavy processing you shouldn't need too spend £1000+ just by a good quality budget unit that you can use for 1-2 years as they are fairly obsolete by this time, you can then buy a new one without having lost a fortune in depreciation value. have a look at this (and there other models)

standard issue notebook with wireless enabled network port for broadband and a modem for dial up.
have bought various items from this company and always forud them helpful and reliable.
as for laptops being robust i'd suggest buying a good quality case.
Personally I don't go for latops, same power twice the price, I built my own huge black machine for about £600 and just bought a 24" LCD to go with it for £650 and a big leather office chair for £100 Who needs portability with a big powerful stationary setup.
You'll never convinve me to get a laptop.
