After working very hard at college on City and Guilds User level 2 Word i achieved a Distinction so i thought brill my life is getting better.
I then recieved a letter saying you need to phone a Hospital to see Colposcopy Clinic as i have had 2 abnormal smears in the last 12 months I feel very lucky as my bestfriend (posh) has agreed to go with me but it is still scary and hoping they don't find anything bad.
Well i guess Life is like a rollercoaster at times good things and bad things its finding a way of coping with all that is thrown at you.
Sometimes i am like tigger boucing and ready to go and other times i want to hide away.
Maybe others have been to this clinic before and can tell me what i may expect.
Here's hoping things will be ok.
I went to hospital with W a couple of years ago for a second look. The second test was negative. They are just being careful and that's good. The results of the return visit may be good news as well as bad.
So cheer up!
I can't offer any advice, sorry but what I can say is well done for making an appointment to get this dealt with.
Its not an easy thing to have done, I hate smears and find them painful sad
Good luck kiss
Hi Wayward
Sorry to hear that. You sound like you have your head screwed on though so approach this with a positive frame that checkups are exactly that. I am sure there are many of us that have had to have referrals at some point for something or another and yes they are scarey but we deal with them and often get a reality check afterwards (always a good thing I feel).
And factually (I believe) abnormal cells in the cervix are the most slowest growing and easiest to put right.
Good luck

Well firstly congratulations on passing your exams with distinction .. what a marvellous result for all your hard work Wayward. I'm so pleased for you.
As for the iffy smears ... the hospital are just being careful .. thats their job (isn't it wonderful being British and having our welfare state to look out for us) .. I had iffy smear results when I was in my 30's after having my children but nothing came of it and in the end they just said I must have been rundown a bit. So don't go worrying as its probably nothing.
Love to Posh and kisses for you .. DD xx
Thanks all for the lovely replies makes it easier knowing that i am not alone and can talk openly about it and yes i am going to make sure that i get this sortedsmile
Well done on your exams...brilliant feeling isnt it? smile :)
As for your smear result... I hope all goes well for you, I know its a worry (Ive had a few iffy ones myself), least you know its been checked out..let us know how you get on (if you feel ok with that).
Good luck :) :)

Hi wayward,
at the colposcopy clinic, there really is no reason to worry. You may have your legs put up in straps, and the Doctor or Nurse Colposcopist will look inside you with a special microscope- it doesn't go inside. You may be able to see it yourself on a TV screen. Mine needed a bit of lippy- but I've seen worse.
They may take another smear- or offer you a Biopsy. If they do, it makes sense to go for it whilst youre there. It may give you a momentary twinge, but really nothing to worry about at all.
The next step will obviously depend on the results. However, even if you need treatment it has a fantastic sucsess rate, and if it's the LLETZ (large loop excision of the transformation zone) treatment, it isn't at all painfull. Again, you may be allowed to watch if you like- reminded me of a kebab being shaved dunno
Whatever the results, you will be given more regular smears for several years.
I do know the sinking feeling when they find a problem hun, and sympathise with your feelings right now- but remember a dodgy smear in itself is NOT cancer. Im sure that with Posh by your side you'll be fine.
kiss
Big hugs hun kiss As long as you go and have it looked at you should have nothing to worry about.
I've had to go for a couple of Colposcopy's now, the first couple of which turned out to not look too good so went on to have Loop Diathermy treatment.
The colposcopy is 'uncomfortable' but certainly no worse than your normal smear. (for god's sake - ask them not to point out the cameras in the corner or you'll not eat for a week lol )
The Loop Diathermy is more uncomfortable but if you keep up your regular smears it shouldn't get to that point. I was childish and ignorant and even after my first colposcopy and - didn't go back for another test as reccommended in 6 months - I left it another 2 years before I did. I now go every 6 months as reccommended as in the last 10 years or so I have only had 2 normal smears. I can't have Loop Diathermy again so my next option will be radiotherapy should it occur again.
I would add that if you have the loop diothermy, there is a risk in future pregnancies of having an incomplete cervix which can lead to miscarriage & pre-term labour.
Anyone else who is due and hasn't been - seriously, go - rather a few minutes of discomfort and embarrasment than the alternative.

Thank you all for the caring words and i will let you know once i have been as appointment isnt until 12th april so i have a little wait.

Hospital appointment wasn't as bad as i thought the consultant i saw was very nice, did a bioopsy now just got to wait up to four weeks for results well not as long as a smear test which here is currently 12 weeks.
Good job i had no plans for this weekend as no sex for aleasr a week.
Thanks again to all that replied on here before and willing to be a support couldnt have gone with out my best friend posh whom some of you know.
