Did anyone see this programme last night? The main characters Maggie and Phil have a swinging couple living next door to them, Mia and Nick. In last night's epsiode, Nick meets up with the wife of a couple they had sex with at a suggests to Nick that the pair of them meet up for regular sessions at a hotel. He tells Mia and she very obviously is not happy about it this. End of programme.
So what next then? Mia and Nick split up (?) and we have the perfect moral tale for mass consumption that swinging is bad for relationships. Bearing in mind that most studies show that swinging couples tend to have better communication and understanding of each other than most couples, the unlikely scenario presented seems like propaganda.
Has anyone ever been contacted by the spouse of a couple in this way? If they did what was/would be your reaction? At the risk of sounding absurd, we find swingers to be a fairly moral lot , so how often would this happen?

Yes we thought the same. The whole scene was treated as the guy just wanting to get his rocks off regardless of any feelings his partner had. Next weeks trialer was obviously heading towards more of the same insensitive action on the part of the guy. I dont know any swingers like this...it would inevitably end up in the relationship breaking down. Swinging is a trust thing and works because of the strength of the relationship...this programme poytrayed it as a decietful and unfaithful life-style...tho obviously we've all been contacted by males in relationships and their partners not knowing...most cpls in to swinging do so with ground rules and boundries which are respected and mutually agreed...not like this programme that had the male ego as the dominating charactor and the lady as the submissive dumb partner sat at home accepting what ever abuse was hurled her way.

On a more serious note I am constantly annoyed by the medias (tv/newspaper/mags etc) negative portrayal of swingers and swinging.

I didn't see it- but that is the usual way it goes and yes, it hacks me off too. The same thing with anything that touches on prostitution- theyre all unwashed junkies being controlled by a male.
However- have to say that I have known couples where one partner (the woman, although I daresay it happens the other way around too) is just doing it to please the other.
In fact, on saturday night out of 40 couples at a party, whilst most were obviously keen a few women stood out as just "performing" and going through the motions. One guy in particular was continually pushing his wife to do things she didn't want to- to the point where my heart bled for her, poor cow looked close to tears

I have actually been approached by both the husband and wife AND the husband alone to see if I would play with them by myself - this is after several meets with them as two couples.
I was totally gobsmacked, declined the offers and told hubby all about it. After he calmed down and promised me faithfully he wasn't going to go around and knock their blocks off, we made it clear to them that we wouldn't meet them again. It would have been all too easy to lose it and shout and scream, but we were calm, polite and told them how disappointed we were that they had tried to compromise what we thought was a great friendship as much as anything else.....

In my mind, Swinging is about complete open-ness, so BOTH parts of the couple tell each other everything and set boundaries as to what they will and won't do...
