I have been reading stories in the "Swingers Stories" (sic) area and some of the threads here. I have a question.
Is it necessary to be functionally illiterate to be a swinger?

The literacy standard in here corresponds pretty much to the standard everywhere else these days. If you walk around with your head in the clouds you might not have noticed.
By the way, I would not have started a new paragraph for your question, as it belongs thematically to the previous paragraph.
Mike.

No, but I would imagine you have to be functionally imbecilic to make yourself known in that way.

I admit to noticing that spelling is not a strong point, but in an informal place like this where people generally ain't judged on their literacy, who gives a shit. I agree with MikeNorth's comment that the literary standard here is on a par with everywhere else.
For instance, I've just finished reading a report written by a student studying for a Masters Degree. At this level I would not expect to see basic spelling/grammatical errors, and also poorly laid out and some very dodgy formatting to get things to fit onto a page. Horrible.
Thank you Ladies kiss
Head's much better now - if a little sticky redface

"Swingers Stories" (sic)

Sic implies that a quoted word, phrase or passage has been preserved verbatim despite an error, thus rendering the quotation marks both superfluous and, for my taste, somewhat of an affectation.
Incidentally, what is the implied error? Swingers stories seems accurate enough to me. Stories about swingers, are they not?
I take it you are quibbling about the lack of an apostrophe? An error on your part, common among those who are less literate than they believe themselves to be. The apostrophe which you believe to be missing would denote either possession or contraction, neither of which may be safely inferred by context in this instance.
It is, of course, your prerogative to appear ridiculous should that be your desire, but if it is not, might I suggest you refrain from stone-throwing while inhabiting a house made of glass?
I hope this has been of assistance. smile
