If I lived anywhere near LONDON I would be there.
I think it's disgusting that we are welcoming it here! mad :x :x :x

Agreed, but lets not mention Younghusband eh
just seen the flame being paraded through london, what a have been more dignified to just cancel it.
lets hope the chinese are registering the feelings of decent people everywhere
I am on the side of the line of the OP. State brutality of the proportions inflicted by China is well beyond the pail.
But if I may introduce a note of controversy here.
We have many threads on here ranting and raving about the excessive pandering to political correctness and human rights in this country.
So it does seem to be a matter of personal opinion where the correct balance may lie - especially when you get near the middle ground.
Don't misunderstand me - I'm not saying that oppressive and totalitarian regimes should be tolerated but I bet there are many people in China, who think differently to us.

Morning all.
Sunday 8th of April 2008.
The Olympic torch touched down @ Heathrow.
Cannot be in London for the protest, but declaring my displeasure with the shocking human rights violation by China on it's inhabitants and the inhabitants of Tibet, right here and now.
mad

Anyone else want to protest? Especially the swinging community so we can illustrate that we are interested in more than just sex.

The human rights act in this country is a joke and there for a lot to abuse it! We all hear the horror stories dont we? But.......In China they DO need human rights. To think the Olympics is being held in such a political defunked country, where the people have NO rights and if they so much as say something out of turn are shot or sent to prison for life!
We all know that the suited and booted arses who let the games be held in China, have done it for their own political and financial dont give a stuff about what happens in the country itself, or for the people who live there.
Communism..where the rich and powerful have everything, and the other 98% have nothing!! They say we are hard done by over here. The Government over here should have washed their hands of it but wont...too much to gain for them.
It is mildly interesting that there is never any comment on such matters from the poor people who are imprisoned or have met an untimely demise because thay have annoyed

Well if they have met an untimely demise they could hardly be expected to comment, except through a medium perhaps. Those imprisoned probably don't have reliable Internet access, so not even mildly interesting once you think about it.

Aaah... Silly me !! Quite elementary really dear Unc !
Oh well, seeing as all the political prisoners in the U.K. are unavailble for comment and all the very outspoken are unable to communicate from the grave .... I suppose I must find something else for amusement this afternoon.

How about posting a substantiation for your allegation that the UK is holding political prisoners? Or perhaps naming these very outspoken people who would have had something to say had HM Govt not consigned them to an early grave?
I'm guessing however that you find it more amusing to suggest rather than provide substance.
Absolutely correct there, Unc old chap ! Just a little afternoon malarkey... haven't so much as microgramme of evidence.
Well, you see, I'd been perusing all that hydroelectrolysis and HHO engine stuff on Google and YouTube - all absolute baloney, but quite amusing to see how the odd assasination can be useful as a marketing ploy for their electrickery.
Thought I'd try my hand at a little conspiracy stuff on here, but you're all way too smart for me.
Mind you .. had you going for second, didn't I ?
However, will you please stop maligning those dear Chinese chaps. I know quite a few personally and they are most pleasant, considerate and courteous.
And take look at the evidence for Communism -
- The World Health Organisation states that Cuba has the world's best healthcare.
- The world's finest cigars are made in Havana. Sorry, smoked all the evidence.
- For such a small country, Cuba wins a highly disproportionate number of Olympic medals.
- Try buying anything in your local retail paradise that hasn't got a 'Made in China' label on it - the dear chaps ferrett away night and day to keep our plastic warm.
I fear that this is all just a big conspiracy by filthy rich western nations to keep the Olympics away from the Far East and all the dosh in their coffers.
Be honest, when did you last see a dead Tibetan ?
There you go, then - absolutely nothing to worry about .... and I'm awfully sorry if I unduly disturbed any confidence you may have regarding the governing of our most Glorious Nation.
Sleep well and don't have nightmares x x

That is total rubbish. Have you ever been to Cuba?
I was ill when in Cuba and taken to a Hospital with no equipment......... hundreds of Doctors but NO EQUIPMENT.
1 in 4 graduates in Cuba are Doctors that doesn't mean they have the best Healthcare, it means they have the most Doctors per head of population!

I think that people should show their support to the Tibetans and outrage at their treatment.
I have seen discussions on other forums talking about not sending our sportsmen and women. This would also be wrong. These sports people did not choose where the games were to be held and some of them have trained their whole lives to reach this one point in time, and it may be their only chance. To play party politics with their careers is not on in my opinion.
Maybe people who are outraged should not buy goods from China. Hitting them economically would have more bearing than vocal protests. But since I do not know world economics at the moment........do the Chinese need us more than we need them? I have no idea.......so we may be shooting ourselves in the foot.

How about you posting something constructive rather than just trying to put people down with pseudo intellectual claptrap

Still judging others by your own lamentably low standards I see. How sad.

I heard there was no Deli in Tibet! Where would you get nice cold cuts and gorgeous cheeses and all those other tasty bijou niblets.
Also how about if we could send the 'torch' on its way back via Heathrow but this time through Terminal 5 biggrin and accidentally show our ermmmmm displeasure innocent

Are we going to have a show of wordy bollox? neutral
Oh dear, Blonde/Sam, all those doctors .... but no equipment !
Whilst you have my deepest sympathy for your predicament I am deeply disturbed that such a fine pillar of bureaucracy as The World Health Organisation has got it all wrong. Is there no end to incompetence on the planet ?
As democracy gently follows communism round the S bend, it was comforting to believe that some sort of social care might survive. Alas not. At least in this country we have the good fortune to be able to bloodlessly convert back to a Monarchy.
Unlike W.H.O. I did try to visit Cuba once, but was unfortunately and forcibly ejected when the beverage stewardess misinterpreted my polite request for some T.W.A. tea.
Oh, and err, thank you for pointing out the potentially offensive nature of my drivellings, dear Flower(s). Whilst I can be provocative, I never try to be intentionally offensive on a personal level. I have composed a suitably grovelling apology and Unc should receive it first post. Whenever that is, these days.
As for the rest of you, stop this bickering and get your teeth into the topic ... follow Notts lead .. or give me the well deserved, but constructive verbal thrashing that I truly deserve after that last message ... and don't spare the salt!!
Don't look to me for inspiration, you'll only get shite, crap and innane drivel, with a slight possibility of complete bollox from me. Stick to what you're good at, I always say.
A slightly political thread on here....who'd have thunk it rolleyes
To be consistent then (back to the topic) if we oppose all things Chinese at the moment are we all going to stop buying products made in China as an additional protest too? The suppliers in the industry I'm involved in (Promotional items) nearly all have factories in China so I'm just going to have to turn the other cheek unfortunately.

What about old Robert Mugabe? How is that old tyrant still there? Dont see anybody coming to their aid!
Oh silly me....no oil....so no point. How must those be feeling at inflation at 1000%? May have to do another thread, dont want to hijack this one. lol
Once, long ago wars stopped for the Olympics. Men attended the Olympics for the glory of their City and a very good pension.
Now it seems that we say it is an amateur sports event, but everyone still finds ways to make money.
The last time the Olympics, in Moscow, were how shall we say? Used as a protest will ensure it does not happen again.
It is sad to see the Olympic flame used in this way, but I aplaude those who have found a way to demonstrate and bring so much media attention to the re-occupation of Tibet.
It was Hitler who started the tradition of parading the flame. I wonder how long it will continue. Who will be interfearring with the next one in 2012?

Are you really a wanker or is part of an act?
I feel sorry for all those atheletes who have dreamed of an attempt at glory in the olympics. It's a disgrace that China, with its obvious human rights issues, was ever chosen but I dare say they paid the most in bribes.
If ever there was an excuse for a boycott then it's now. Award the British athletes with a specially crafted medal for their integrity and morals in forsaking their personal goals for the courage to do the right thing and applaud them as heroes.
It may be the only medals they win after all
