Just thinking about them makes me scalp itch...
We had a constant reinfestation problem, find the blighters, treat with chemicals, nit comb, and tea tree, go back to school, and three day's later start all over again, then a friend suggested the following and touch wood its worked so far.
My daughter is always the source of the problem with longer hair, they dont jump, but actually crawl from on head to another. Girls being girls, they huddle and the long hair is a fantastic super highway for the nits.
By always plating her hair it reduced the reinfestation, and using leave in conditioner (tee tree if I can find it) it made the hair too slippery for the nit to get a grip on, so at least it couldn't adhere any eggs.
Iv been doing this for a year now, and so far (franticly looking for wood to touch) we havnt had a problem since.
Hope this helps smile
my little one has really long hair so tends to catch them loads.
even keeping her hair tied back and using the wet comb method does not seem to keep her clean.
the best i have ever been able to do is keep them under controll.. ie doing her hair every 2 days.. and getting the 3 or 4 that are there out.
i think the main problem is the schools attitudes.
its horrid to say.. but the "scruffy kids" whose parents dont seem to even bother washing the kids clothes.. let alone their hair, always seem to have them.. so as quick as you remove them from your own child. they are being re infected!!!!
when i was a kid... the nit nurse gave you a note to take home if you had them, she then came back a week later to make sure you had been de-liced.
i think it needs to be started again.

I have what I believe to be the solution for the cure of ntis.
Wash your hair in oil, any oil will do even used car oil or virgin olive oil.(well maybe just olive oil)he he.
So when the hair is washed the nits cannot adhear to the hairs as it will be to slippery.
Job done lol

Believe it or not this is not far from the truth - I have very oily hair/skin and never got nits at school even when they were doing the rounds. It also means my skin is virtually impervious to most household chemicals etc and I never have to wear gloves.
The down side is I spent my time from age 13 to 25 with chronic acne that no treatment would help with.
Roger the Dragon. (Not sure I should have shared all that, I can hear big crosses being marked in little black books across the land. )
