As many of you on the site are parents I thought I'd have a half term whinge
Not whinging that the kids are off school (means lie ins for a week) but the fact that there are no school nurses these days and every week my kids seem to get nits!!!
So after an interrogation in the local pharmacy we now have some bottles of awful smelling nit lotion and guess what? I have the blighters too grrrrrrrr
Great start to the week off eh
Are all schools/kids the same?
Touch wood my kids don't have the beasties yet, though the school has sent out notice regarding nits. We were infested by them last year. Seems they're resilient to all the potions and lotions on the market now too. Found rubbing conditioner into my kid's hair and using a nit comb nightly for a 2 week period cleared the pests up. Thing is, some moms just don't seem to care so our kids are quickly re-infested. confused
Our daughter in constantly plauged with the fekin things mad :x
A week away from school will see the little shits killed off but after a few days back at school they are back again..
We invested in a RobiComb..
A kind of electric chair for nits....
Its a comb with a battery in it and when used it electricutes the little fekers on contact.
We also use a tea-tree based shampoo as they dont seem to like that either.
It is high time the Nit Nurse was once again a regular feature in schools and parents were educated in the identification and elimination techniques of nits.
Several times a year the school sends out letters about this problem and gives advice to parents on how to deal with the problem but obviously nothing is done in some housholds as the problem keeps coming back...
Fortunatly we have not got the problem and never have had, so what are the schools here doing different, perhaps its time to ask them.
your right about one thing perhaps reintro of the nit nurse like when we were young would be a good move.
Guess the goverment would say its not worth the money, but for the parents who have to deal with the little buggers it would be a god send better than all the crap they do waste money on.
you have my simpathies
I feel for you, my daughter had nits in the summer holidays and they are little sods, never had them myself and was surpirsed to find my daughter itching thought it was dandruff at first. A good brursh and tea tree conditioner does the job. Just the thought of them makes me begin to itch.
F
same problem here im sick of the ruddy things something needs to be done and sharpish
ie the children infested should be kept away from school and only allowed back once they are clear andd that includes my children too
I guess it proves we have clean hair!
Sick of itching here though FFS
Oh Bunny - I came on here thinking it'd be a thread about your GOATS! lol

Best thing to get rid of nits a bottle of conditioner and a nit comb!! Wash and condition everyday and before rinsing the conditioner out use the nit comb thouroughly rinsing it off as you go along do that for a week or so and you should get rid of the problem.
My daughter had recurring nits about a year and a half ago and after numerous lotions and potions I tried the conditioner thing and it worked a treat!!
Problem with schools these days (or at least the ones in Glasgow!) and also with afterschoolcare, playgroups etc they dont usually inform all the parents until they have so many children in a class with nits which means that the problem goes on and on!! I suppose its a way of not singling out particular children whose parents may not bother so much and an occupational hazard of badly funded schools not having the resources to be able to cope with things like nits etc!!
BRING BACK THE NIT NURSE
Am I correct in saying that nits only live in clean hair.
I might be speaking too soon so I will go away and do some research.
BTW Welcome back Fruity
wave
Seems I am wrong.
Head lice can live in any typr of hair, clean or dirty.
hehe thanks its great to be back!!
As far as Ive always been aware its only clean hair they will go to now about living in clean hair?? Not so sure, there was a wee girl in my daughters class at school who had nits for ages, was a bloody shame and the weans hair never really looked that clean but I blame the parents tbh children that young cant be held responsible! ;(
But then again there are lots of childhood diseases that reoccour every other couple of years that were thought to have gone!! Eventually the medications for these things wont work as the visuses seem to mutate over the years I think the same goes for nits too!! Bloody supernits!
wonder if they wear wee tights with pants over them with a big SN on their chests!! Damn sure the wee fuckers might have learned to fly as well!! rolleyes
well the quickest solution for me was to shave my head! also works well when ya get craps .. but thats a different not so nice story! that is best left forgoten!!!!!
JGL
Since my eldest started school last year she's had them so many times that i can't remember.I find the best solution is to literally sit and go through every strand of hair and pick off all the eggs and lice one by can take hours but seems most effective.
Tea tree conditioner can be good is with the lotions you can buy,the nits become used to it and can live through it so you need to use a different one every time.
I have seen some nit repellant on the market, but ive yet to try it,must be worth a go,just depends on how bad it smells i guess.
God im itching now confused
The school where I work is constantly infested...... there's several families who never seem to be free of them and reinfest everyone else.
Unfortunately as a school there's nothing we can do.... if the nitnurse was still around all she could do is send them home with a letter.... its then down to the parents to treat the kids.... but then there's families who don't give a stuff so the kids just get sent back still crawling the next day.
I think I must be immune to them.... touch wood
maz xx
You know what, I wish I never read this thread my heads felt itchy all bloody day now and im getting paranoid a bit even though I know I dont have nits DAMMIT!! evil
Ive got psychological nits that dont exist!! Dare I say "its all in my head!" rolleyes
... at least one of the kids seems to pick them up on average once a year.

and i just thought it was me!!
its like when ya seen ants in ya kitchen in the summer,, you just cant help but scratch!!
Well I won't be getting a shag tonight smelling like this grrrr
Not exactly good for a new relationship is it - had to tell him to check his hair too after spending the weekend here!
And I'm still itching
Seems to be a growing problem these days. people had nits back in my school days but we had nit nurses and the problem never seemed to get so far out of hand like it does today. Hope you get the problem solved. Why not campaign for thr return of Nit Nurses too..... as I recall our schools nurse was quire dishy! lol
Gotta stop thinking about it i'm itching all over.
mad :x
Same here in bristol to some parents just dont care about their children having nits. My little girl has had them 6 times this year and I got them twice its a nightmare.!!!
I have what I believe to be the solution for the cure of ntis.
Wash your hair in oil, any oil will do even used car oil or virgin olive oil.(well maybe just olive oil)he he.
So when the hair is washed the nits cannot adhear to the hairs as it will be to slippery.
Job done lol

Errr good idea but I'm not sure that I'd like the just got out of the chip pan look!
its not nice to say but my daughters are always infested eeuuuuwwww, im like claire sitting there like a mother monkey picking them out and biting their little heads off (not really)
They never seem to bother me tho, i think its cos i encase them in hairgell. biggrin
ok ok ... sound advice coming up
Lice are like fish .. they breath through gills, make them close the gills long enough and they suffocate. To do this you need to wet the hair and smooth it in conditioner ... leave it on for as long as possible (hours this means) and then comb through with a special nit comb.
Chemical killers are becoming useless and something like tea tree oil will help as the lice hate it.
You need to repeat this every other day for about a week and it should clear up.
There are natural remedies you can buy which work well also.
yea apparently they can close their gills for 24 hours or something like that
so smother the kids hair in baby oil for a who;e day i always do a day and a half just to be sure
and then comb it
it also stops the eggs clinging (well most of them)
then wash there hair twice comb it again
then wash it again
and comb it again
i do it as often as possible
it works too
>>>>Scratches head<<<<< in sympathy for all the kids out there!
xanaisx
Ever had the feeling "I wish I had never read that post!" I haven't got nits but cant stop scratching my head now mad
When there was an outbreak in the kids school a few years ago I heard that they didnt like Tea Tree, so we have used Tea Tree shampoo & conditioner ever since & (touch wood) never had them.
Its said that they go to clean hair, but why is it the "not so clean" looking kid always seems to be the one that passes it on?? & while other parents are frantically trying to get rid of them, the parents of the kids that have them bungee jumping of their heads don't seem to bother confused
