what is your oppinion of the idear of making lorries use the inside lane on some stretches of motorway!!!
Good idea!
Works well in Holland & Germany - mind you I might have a different opinion if I was a trucker
They use that lane any way, do you mean restricting them to only that lane?
Whilst it seems like a good idea at the time......
People have got to remember that if we do this it will make the lorries go slower therefore making the lorry driver's trip longer which will make deliveries later which will use more fuel up and in the end we will have to pay for it.
Well thats what i think anyway.
When I've got 2 or 3 hours to spare and had at least half a bottle of wine, I'll come back here and give you my thoughts. IFyou think you could bear to read them !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ES obviously hasn't spotted this thread yet
They don't bother me on the road at all.
Chill hunni, life's too short to stress about which lane lorries drive in

no sorry that wasnt a joke take a look from a motorcyclists side or a lorry drivers view a lot of car drivers treat there cars like a conservatoy music ,heat, comfort, where as bikers and truck drivers have to be alert and watch for the pepole in there 4 wheeled conservatory.i know ive been snotted by a car .
master 55 hit the nail right on its head beaching is the cause of our traffic problems today .the closer of the branch lines in the 60's and the later goverments selling the land off for housing .the then population boom has all resulted in more lorries and cars on the roads and less trains to cope with the passengers who are now fed up with the roads
there is no quick fix to the overall problem it's been building up for years and will take years to go away . me personally i dont think more roads is the option more trains and more old railway lines reopening is the solution
Trains are simply not an efficient and cost effective way of moving things. They are always either overcrowded or half empty, one breakdown takes out a whole line because they can't go round each other, and it's usually cheaper to fly somewhere rather than take a train there!
If we wanted to do something to improve transport and relieve congestion, concreting over the railway lines and letting us drive on them would be good start.
trains may not always be ideal for passengers but they are bloody good for bulk freight. The current argument that freight needs roads because there are no rail lines is a backwards one - if rail hadn't been left to rot, we wouldn't have distribution warehouses next to motorways, they'd be next to rail lines.
And passenger trains work well in metropolitan areas Manchester Metrolink is a good example - wish the lines near me hadn't been concreted over for cars - it would have made my commuting MUCH easier.
They're also quicker than planes for city centre to city centre journeys....
Ant.
Don't know about lorries but that bus lane in the fast lane near Heathrow is utterly ridiculous!
