I haven't seen the programme.
However, freedom of speech is good.....inciting hatred of any kind is unacceptable.
I also watched this show. What Louis didn’t do was go for the leader:
His strength is in his power attack that. Not by asking him a stupid question about
“How many Daughters do you have ?”.
Attack him using the thing that he bases his life on... The Bible.
Even Louis said that you can use it to justify ANY behaviour using The Bible. So why didn’t take up his own advice, instead of what I think was a lazy attitude.
What Louis should of done is research looked at the books of The Bible that the group of people use & attack that. Also before going use an Academic of Christian Theology to ask questions that would cause a response.
What actually happened is that in today’s work & not the world that Louis began doing his unique documentaries the public ARE Media Savvy. They know the questions before they are asked thus making it harder for the Media as they have over populated everything 24hrs a day on the Television & Internet. Like a Magician telling the pubilc his tricks..!
Either change Louis or your going to be the one that’s going to look strange in a weird role reversal of what you attempt to do.
Wunderhorse,
The problem with anyone like that is that their world is a circular arguement. You cannot attack them using the bible, as they will simply say that you are not getting the true meaning of scripture, ergo you will go to hell; I think Louis realised this and took the attitude of letting their beliefs show through. The Pastors' aggressive, confrontational attitude meant that he was never going to win that one... you'd argue till hell froze over (presumably full of fags and fag lovers, with a few soldiers thrown in for good measure;-) and achieve nothing. It's fascinating - I am a firm beleiver that we create the world we wish to live in with our tyhoughts and emotions. You preach hate, give out nothing but vile and vitriol - and hey presto, everywhere you look, hate!
The God/ess I believe in sure has nothing to do with them.
On a brighter note; though I felt sorry for them, I seems like the daughters' chances of procreating are pretty slim (by their own admission), so maybe Darwin will win after all.
Now faced with living in heaven with those 70-odd, or being in hell with a bunch of queers, sinners and sexual deviants.... hmmmm. hump
As Frank would say - 'They know how to frow a paaarrtayy!
:rascal:
Japes
They had no respect, even for the dead, using children as shields is in my estimation sick.
Those kids should be playing with friends and not being brain washed, IMO those parents should be jailed for child abuse. mad

I would have liked louis to interview some of Phelps family that have left or been thrown out of the church.
Why worry, theroux shows these guys for the fools they are, very skillfull, just gives them enough rope to hang themselves, its the questions that he dosnt ask that do the most damage. picketing some guys funerl though, unforgivable!!!
If suddenly at the end of the day these people dissappeared then you can be sure at the start of tomorrow there would be people too take thier place.
At least by knowing they exist and of the attention given too them maybe the outrage felt buy most of us is enough to keep these people from ever becoming a serious social threat. Of course i pity the ones affected by them in respect of picketing of funerals and hate the other vile things they do including using and bringing their children up in this way. At least they stand as a warning beacon to the rest of us.
I’m sorry dunno
No really I am, because this post will probably alienate me from the few friends I have left on this site, but I feel it has to be said, especially in the light of historical (recent and older) events.
Religion sucks, it really does, I just can not get my head around how many people have died the most horrendous deaths through torture, disfigurement, being slashed, burned, and generally cut to pieces, all in the name of some mystical, imaginary, non existent omni-powerful being.
Is it only me that finds it strange that the mainstay of almost every one of these fantasies professes its most urgent desire to be ‘peace’ ….. ’happiness’ and the fulfilment of the individual? If I had a physical product and tried to sell it under that description, and made the same amount of money out of it, I would be languishing in prison for a whole raft of offences including deception. How strange then that I can disguise it as religion, make a F*****g fortune, retire to the Bahamas, and get away with it
There are terrorists in our very midst as I speak, who, in the past have been responsible for inventing, and using such things as, *the tyre necklace* (this involves filling a tire with petrol, hanging it around some poor unfortunates neck and then setting fire to it) *the spud and drill* (this is where you break into the family home while your target is watching the TV with his/her family, dropping a sack of potatoes in their lap so they cant get up, then drilling out their kneecaps with a Black & Decker) No, as tasteless as they are, these are just two very tame examples of specialities used by two well known personalities, who are now praised as heroes, rather than the torturers they are, and all in the name of religion.
And what is religion? The opium of the masses as someone in history said? :dunno:
I sure as hell have no idea would be a good acronym :lol2:
The year is 2007, technology has breached barriers that are unfathomable to most. The abilities for communication, exploration, experimentation toward the furtherment of mankind and the well-being of every single individual on this planet have never been so easy, or affordable, yet every minute of every hour of every day, week month year, billions upon billions are spent in the pursuit of annihilation of the species, in the name of???
F*****g Religion !!!
Is it not time that humanity woke up, looked around, and took a little sniff at the napalm it’s created? rolleyes
As for all you religious types who are about to descend upon me like the horsemen of the apocalypse, bear this in mind.
A famous person (some say Voltaire :dunnosmile once said, quote “I may disagree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it” ……… now THAT, is democracy, as much as I despise the teachings of hatred and violence perpetrated by most / all religions, I am happy that they are allowed to do so, because that, that is the price of true freedom.
End of rant.
Pete
Hey Pete you won't find me arguing with you. Your words trip off your keyboard like poetry mate!!

Pete- from Thread starter to Fire starter-
You've not alienated me hun kiss
I'm watching it now...sky + the repeat last night, its very interesting veiwing.
I tend to stay away from politics or religion but omfgg this is unbelievable!!!
Pete, you may have your opinions and beliefs and yes you have a right to that, whether we all agree or not.
But, to blame religion for this;
"billions upon billions are spent in the pursuit of annihilation of the species, in the name of???
F*****g Religion !!!
Is it not time that humanity woke up, looked around, and took a little sniff at the napalm it’s created?"

You can actually blame all that on religion? im astounded by your knowledge.....
"as much as I despise the teachings of hatred and violence perpetrated by most / all religions, I am happy that they are allowed to do so, because that, that is the price of true freedom."
Not all religions agree with violence and death, i agree that there is a minority that squew things but that is not most/all, to lump them all in one is very unfair and biased, quite frankly im insulted by it.
It is very easy to lay blame at the door of religion without actually mentioning all the good that it does do, I am very sorry to say pete, i am disgusted in your attitude, but then, i can have an opinion too !
Post coffee head on.....
Guys & gals- can we please stick to the original question rather than this turning into a debate about religion.
Mods- am I talking out of my butt, or was/is there a rule about not discussing religion? Just read the AUP to clarify and I cant see it dunno
As you were! wink
I missed it first time round and second time round, think I need to find a copy.
I believe in science me.
sorry winch but i just could not help it confused
The post was very inflammatory and i just could not sit on my hands - as i said, i tend to steer clear of this kind of thing, if there is not a ruling against that kind of posting, there should be ......
I promise, i will sit on my hands now and wont bite back wink
It's not religion that kills people and perpetuates hatred/abuse/etc - it's people themselves.
Sadly religion just happens to be the shield/excuse of choice for a lot of bad people who want to harm others.

don't worry hun..... you were the only one who read what pete wrote and though "oh my"
Religion itself isn't the problem, it is how people decide to interpret what was written that is the problem.....spin the words on a piece of paper whichever you want, to get the position you want to hold......
I sky + the programme last night.. so i am really looking forward to watching it now

Hi folks. wave
I would like to organise a social for early summer
The theme would be “ Druids, Witches Warlocks and Pagans “

Isn't there something that doesn't quite fit together here? Is this the same Pete? lol
Fabio, Kiss, you guys are spot on there.....
As to the original post - I saw this after being prompted by someone on here and I was amazed and outraged. I was actually shouting at the telly.
The thing that got me most (even more than using the children to spread their filth) was the picketing of a dead soldiers funeral. A man who died at war so they could have the freedom to disrespect him and his family at the worst moment in their lives.
Although I am astonished at the way they behave - you know what? I too could smile at the thought of someone burning in hell - if it were one of them. I guess that makes me no better huh?

hmm let me think for a while .....
how about 69position followed by hump and then maybe a bit more :69:
I'm not sure that religion is the problem, it's a matter of intolerance for other people's beliefs. People can believe what they like but have no right to force it on others or make threats against them.
It seems to me that these cults or whatever you want to call them can always find something in the Bible to justify their thoughts and actions. I'm an atheist myself but I thought the message of Jesus was that we should forgive sin and love our enemies as our brother. The Phelps congregation seem a bit short on both love and forgiveness.
For those that missed this programme a few weeks back, it is being repeated tonight at:
12:40 AM BBC1 according to my TV guide
Incase anyone is interested, you can also watch it on YouTube (in segments) and on P2P
