What do you like to nibble on?
Being a fully affiliated hedonist I do enjoy life's pleasures and one being food! (and cooking!) I thought it would be interesting to know what your favourites foods were...
A few of mine...
Sushi/Japanese
More sushi
Anything fishy (no laughing at the back..!)
French bread and pastries when in France (sorry they just have a way with flour!)
Paella (cooked proper like)
Thai food.... aubergines fried in sweet chilli sauce yum!
Fry Bentos Steak 'n' Kidney pie (a hommage to my northern pie man x)
Sweeties... cola bottles, dollymix, sherbet dibdabs, jellybeans...
Baked cheesecake (the sort that sticks to the roof of your mouth not the cream drenched sweet mush they serve in restaurants.... rant rant!!)
Fresh strawberries dipped in dark chocolate
Has anyone eaten anything unusual?
(yes... I know I'm going to regret that one!)
I've had electric eel! Snails, as a bet and thought they were vile! Offered some grubs when in Oz but I declined... I don't eat anything that wriggles that hasn't bought me a drink first.
Any food peculiarities?
For instance and this may seem bizarre... bananas make me gag, I like bananas but even the smallest bite kicks in a gagging reflex. I hasten to add it's only bananas lol
Does anyone like the whole '9 and a 1/2 weeks' scenario?
Have you ever found yourself running to the fridge during a heated moment then skipped up the stairs sniggering clutching a jar of marmite and bread sticks?
And is it time to bring back fondues? Discuss.
P.S. Did I mention sushi? innocent
Fondues were hard work eatingwise but great from the social 's the lifelong friend I made via fondue.
i tried kangreoo when i was in aus (back in 87 before it became a la carte) and also one of them whichity grub thingys (that just made me spyoo) much to the delight of the aberiginys i was staying with.
but you can`t beat good old sheaperds pie (made with real sheaperds as i tell my young un)
I love Japanese food. :inlove:
Not just sushi, but Tempura, Yakitori, Sukiyaki Udon , Nabimono and Sashimi, the list goes on and on. However, they do have one or two things that are beyond the pale. For example, Natto a fermented bean allowed to go rotten before eating Yuk!,
also various nasty things from the bottom of the sea, sea cucumbers, sea snails and the like. One of the odd things though, was how repulsed the Japanese were about the very idea of rice pudding! It made many of my friends physically sick just thinking about rice, milk and sugar in the same meal. dunno
Just now however for me it’s Olives; I once hated them, but now can’t get enough of them. Not the wet in brine ones from the supermarket kind, but the dry mixed with herbs and spices ones from the deli counter. :inlove: :inlove:
Stormwalker
Can't get the olive thing... tried so often but no can do!
I love the Deli counter though.. cheeses and dips and salami and pickles and houmous....what I think is sad though is the lack of real one off Delis catering only for those epicural delights... there was one in Brighton near where I used to live but it closed down in favour of..... yet ANOTHER cafe shop (oh how bloody original!! rant rant!).
Supermarkets be damned for enslaving real food!!!
worship Wonderful list! My mouth is watering... feed me feed me!! :evil2:
Call it 'Haricots blancs à la sauce tomate sur le pain grillé'.... and you'll feel so much better!
Actually.. yes crack a tin for me I'll be round with me chopsticks x
Ooh, grub...one of my favourite subjects....hence the lardy arse! :moon:
Favourites?
A big thick rare fillet steak.....mmmm...red meat!
Just about anything mediterranean
Mussels provencale
Any veg I grow myself...always tastes so much better
Stovies
Any food peculiarities?
I just don't get the point of food that hurts you......hot curries and the like. The other half eats jamaican jerk chicken so hot it'd blister paint. I just don't get it, but then not really into any form of pain. smackbottom
Does anyone like the whole '9 and a 1/2 weeks' scenario?
Yes, particularly drinking champagne from each other... 69position
As for fondues, I say yes...bring em back..especially sweet ones, mmmm white chocolate and strawberries and cherries.
Kittysin you are not lardy in the least... quite perfect actually. :rose:
What is it with hot hot hot curries?? Tribal male macho thing??

What do you like to nibble on?
You mean apart from my 'intimate friend'?
Most foods except sweetcorn, swede and water chestnuts
All meat cooked to perfection ( I can't be doing with sushi )
Has anyone eaten anything unusual?
Tried shark once and very nice it was too
Any food peculiarities?
Not so much food but as I don't take sugar in my tea or coffee, if someone stirs my cuppa after stirring one that has sugar in it, I can taste it so can't drink it
Does anyone like the whole '9 and a 1/2 weeks' scenario?
It's the main reason for having ice cream in the freezer!
And is it time to bring back fondues?
No!
What do you like to nibble on?
Chocolate is number one always
Camembert baked with garlic - omg mmmmmmmmmmm
Proper baked potatoes
Pretty much anything involving pasta
Has anyone eaten anything unusual?
Ostrich - which was very pleasant, like the leg meat of a turkey
Any food peculiarities?
Cold cabbage sarnies - blame my paddy dad for that one!
Does anyone like the whole '9 and a 1/2 weeks' scenario?
Not really, the 'feeding each other' scenario is ok but i can't stand that sticky feeling on my skin where chocolate body paint or ice cream etc has been, does nothing for me at all
And is it time to bring back fondues? - Nah, chocolate fountains are the new fondue!!
Camembert baked with garlic - omg mmmmmmmmmmm

When I was last in Paris I had this large bun thing with a hole cut in the top with a whole camembert in... it was then heated so the cheese melted... yummy!!! Like a bread bowl of cheesy soup!
Cold cabbage sarnies - blame my paddy dad for that one!

I have a penchant for cheese and strawberry jam sandwiches! My dad to this day still eats dripping sandwiches... euwwww!

I thought it was only me who did that Sassy, the drinks I've had to pour away because of it and my family think I'm mad, but that's a whole other story.
Chargrliied Corgettes in olive oil, served on a chunk of posh white bread. Divine........!
Discovered them by accident when nicking some of Mr W's salad bar pot from Waitrose.
On the other end of the scale, chips & Gravy! Good old fashioned northern fodder- which is unobtainable darn sarf!
