i was wondering if anyone else has trouble with remembering stuff
now i don't mean i think i'm getting dementia although some might disagree blink but i have come to realise that pulling forward memories is harder for me than most
i had some trauma in my childhood and i think i must of found a way to hide some of my memories but i'm now thinking that it is something i do with day to day life also without meaning to
like recently i was filling out an application form for something and it was asking for the most exciting thing that has happened to me and i couldn't think of anything to put now i most certainly haven't led a dull life and it was only after i had given in and submitted the form that i could remember some exciting things that had happened to me
or when there are threads on here like the english film one i can't think of any films i have seen i just draw a mind blank its like my memories just hide away i know they r there but they just don't wish to come forward willingly
now i was just wondered if anyone else had experience of this and if they know of a way of retraining my mind to remember more readily cause its a huge pain not remembering stuff as easily as others
When someone asks me, "Give me an example of how you influenced someone."
I have to think hard and afterwards think of a far better example. Now I could be walking down the street and see, hear or above all smell something, and a memory floods into my mind.
Ask me a vague question and I find it hard, mention something, and it may trigger a memory.

I'm feckin awful as Her will attest. I have to repeat some things over and over to remember them (like shopping lists) and I'll still forget some of it. I can remember some really weird stuff from way back when (like the colour of the saucepans my parents had 27 years ago) and I can remember things that are really random (like names of islands in the Philippines) but I'm crap at remembering the stuff I need to remember day to day.
I dunno, I'm still alive so I can't be doing too badly. dunno
*Him*
I do most certainly have a bad memory, and always have.
I believe it is worse now than it ever was.
Some of that may have been down to alcoholic abuse in the glory years, and I was a vegan for a few years too...
(disclaimer: Im not saying veganism is a bad thing, but I wasn't a perticularly good vegan... I was poor, and not paying enough attention to my diet. In many ways I believe I was probably at my healthiest when a vegan.. I was doing a lot of quite hard manual work.. and feeling good with it too. But there are a lot of trace elements... so I'm told... that really should be searched out when on such a strict diet. One of the possible side effects is errrm... errr, long term, ummm... you know
... memory loss. I think)
... so the combination could be a part cause, or I may be looking for excuses?
All the same, my memory is awafull. and very very selective too.
Birthdays... names. events being placed chronologically.
whom I said what to... all that
I have to keep notes.
now then, where were we?
lp
I don't remember saying that.

Just about sums me up too
Hmmm Philippines, Luzon oh yes I rember it well, but why? God knows biggrin
Well I'm stumped. I'm sure I popped in here earlier to "big up" meaty- and the entire thread appears to have vanished.
And I usually have a pretty good memory.
you memory is fine.
I think you must have upset someone.

Thats rather familar sounding, i have to make a list of stuff to do or i forget to do it (Outlook calendar saves my life) yet i can remember the correct sequence to tighten the cylinder head nuts on an A series engine (9 & 11 nut versions) including the torque settings....even though i've not do that for the best part of 12 years. might be a geek thing :dunno:

Because of my work I have done some 300 recruitment interviews in the last ten years.
We used to ask that question. The best answer was 'I made my first wife hate me.'
He didn't get the job. I'm guessing he didn't want the job.

...but I do remember being asked, who was in the room and where they sat. How I dealt with the person sat to the side, what I did with my hands and was ready for the question next time around.
Another thing about memory, it improves when your brain has a high level of certain chemicals. Those chemicals can be increase by; fear, shock or humour. So if you want to remember your bosses name link it to a joke, best not to tell Mr Sanger.
 What was the question again rolleyes
My memory is bad just l8ly, i go in the kitchen for sumet, get in there, 4get what i went for, walk bk out, then remember and go bk, i spend half my life goin backwards and forwards, i put it down 2 my age lol
And no jokes about kitchens and women plz smackbottom
I have a terrible memory. I don't have any childhood memories... I only know things because of stories that go with photos that my parents have told me. I couldn't honestly tell you my earliest memory... I suspect primary school... maybe about primary 4 when I was about 8/9 years old. Before that I have nothing.
It's not much better now. I went to my friends wedding. It was 12 years ago. I have no recollection of having been there. She remembers what I was wearing at the hen night and she was dressed as a chicken. I still have no memory of it.
I'm really good at remembering numbers. Phone numbers etc. Other than that I remember stuff cause I write it down.
I also do what Bambi does and go through to the bedroom for something then when I get there (note its about four feet away from the living room) I can't remember what I went in there for. It's really pretty bad. I'm not quite demented yet but I suspect it's not far off. lol
bambi you sweet thang would i comment on a womans place
mr b
Am I missing something? dunno
Sure you didn't mean the bedroom?
i think this should be on the memory post ???
perhaps she forgot? lol bolt
Hold tight.... mind the doors! ;-)
