Having posted a few photo adds on the site a few months ago, i found that i was getting more replies from men pretending they were a woman or couple than women themselves, although the email exchanges didn't end in meets, as after swapping pictures, they either came clean or didn't reply, i still think it is a real seedy trick. Has anyone had anything similar happen to them?

No, it gets worse, i am a man, and used to post adds as male seeking couples, and would get men pretending they were a female or a couple, i have had one experience through replying to a couple, but they said i should get to know people in the forum coupled with the fact that there are so many bogus replies stoped me posting adds.
I just thought if newbie's want to get to know people, they need to join in on the forum, but whenever i have seen a newbie post on here everyone ends up taking the mick, kinda makes people think twice about posting again... I'll be carefull not to get animosity and messing around mixed up in the future..lol

I didn't read it that they mistook you for a woman; they were simply saying that webcams or fem/fem phone chats are the only way to prove that there's a female. It was a couple who answered you and they seek couples so naturally they look for a chat with the female.
They make some good points in that posts though; it is, as you say, a very sensible post.

Didn't give much thought to the sex of the Hamburglar, always struck us as a bit of an axsexual character. Really just giving our experience with timewasters - gender neutral advice. In the case of a guy looking to meet a cpl substitute fem/fem with male/fem phone chat. I don't about other people here but we can tell in most cases when its a guy were talking to.. something about. Generally fakers are concerned with getting loads of pics and asking what you are doing now... wearing etc. Its fun trying to catch them out by asking questions that only the fem (or a fem guy) would know!

to be honest hamburgalar avatar guy i think that most people on here are atune to admitting (perhaps in the early stages of using the site) that they have had these unfortunate experiences, i posted a thread the other day along the same lines!!!! 
anyway, the best advice i can give is take it as a learning experience and try to remember one thing (courtisy of NaughtNympho1) welcome to the internet,where women are women....and so are half of the men!! NN1 we salute you

not yet, but other tricks are :-
People saying they are "in their 30's" when its more accurate that they remember the 1930's.
Somebody who describes themselves as "goodlooking / attractive" when even though their beauty is just skin deep, the ugliness goes right down to the bone.
And the final one (that thankfully has not happened to me) people getting mistaken between centimetres and inches.

I would say, you go with what is in your gut with adds and replies, so far, I have had no luck, but know that being patient is key. Oh, and as a NooB here, I have been made to feel more than welcome, and I have time on my hands

How awful........ swinging is all about honesty and trust... how can that possibly be followed when someone is purporting to be someone they obviously are not.... fraud and deception are two words that come to mind straight away....

This trick predates internet ads - it happened to me in the days of contact ads too. I once chatted to a guy on the phone - he had replied to my ad for a couple. I got "my girlfriend's away on holiday, but you can come round and watch some videos of her".

there will be fakers no matter what site you join, i think those people who stick around on this site are those who are looking / experiencing the long term swinging "thing".
i noticed you have only been on the site less than a month, if youve been using the ad section then my advise would be to check out the member joined date, if you think the ad is a fake and have good reason for this or it is breaking the rules, then pm a mod the details and they will deal with it, hence keeping the site a happier place for the true people.
i would just like to say just because a pic sent looks professional or the person does not reply not always makes them a fake, maybe they were just not intrested in you.
And dont throw stones if you live in a glass house, red the ad your replying to to make sure YOU fit what they are loking for.
